It was the man from earlier, Zeus, who had captivated her with his presence. He looked different now, his sharp features twisted with anger and determination. His suit was stained with blood, and his eyes blazed with fury. He held a pistol in his hand, and Evelyn couldn't help but feel a sense of dread.
Zeus's gaze fell on her, and Evelyn felt like she had been caught in the spotlight. She couldn't move and couldn't speak. She felt paralyzed with fear.
But then he spoke. "Are you okay?" His voice was deep and commanding, but there was a hint of concern in it.
Evelyn couldn't believe it. The man who had seemed so unapproachable earlier was now asking if she was okay. She nodded her head, not trusting herself to speak.
"Stay here," he said, his eyes scanning the room. "I'll come back for you."
And with that, he was gone, disappearing into the chaos of the ballroom.
Evelyn felt a strange mix of emotions. She was scared and confused, but at the same time, she was worried about her best friend, so she decided to look for her. Evelyn knew she had to find Vanessa. She peeked out from behind the table and scanned the room. The scene was chaotic. People were screaming and running in every direction. The sound of gunfire and breaking glass filled the air. Evelyn's heart was pounding so loudly that she thought it would burst out of her chest.
She spotted Vanessa huddled behind a pillar on the other side of the room. Evelyn quickly crawled on her hands and knees, trying to avoid being seen. She reached for Vanessa and pulled her behind the pillar.
"Are you okay?" Evelyn asked, panting from the effort of crawling across the room.
"I'm fine," Vanessa said, her voice shaking.
Evelyn looked around for any sign of help. But there was no one in sight. The men in suits who had been firing at the attackers were nowhere to be seen, and the attackers themselves had disappeared.
Just then, the sound of footsteps echoed through the room. Evelyn and Vanessa both froze, their hearts racing with fear. But the footsteps grew closer, and soon they saw Zeus emerge from the chaos.
He looked even more dangerous than before; his face was contorted with anger and pain. Evelyn realized with shock that he had been injured. Blood soaked through his white shirt, staining the fabric crimson.
"Come on," he said, his voice low and urgent. "We have to get out of here."
Evelyn and Vanessa followed him as he led them through a maze of corridors and staircases. They passed by several dead bodies, and Evelyn felt sick to her stomach. She had never seen so much violence and death in her life.
Zeus pushed open a door, and they found themselves in a dimly lit alleyway. But before they could take another step, they were surrounded by a group of men. Evelyn recognized them as the attackers from the ballroom.
Zeus stepped in front of Evelyn and Vanessa, his eyes blazing with anger. "Get out of our way," he growled.
One of the attackers stepped forward with a sinister grin on his face. "We've been waiting for this moment, Zeus," he said, pulling out a knife.
Evelyn's heart sank. They were trapped. There was no way out.
"I was giving a chance to you bastards because of the ladies behind me, but it seems like you didn't even walk out of this alley alive." The cold, domineering voice of Zeus sent shivers down the spines of everyone.
Zeus moved faster than Evelyn had ever seen anyone move. He knocked the knife out of the attacker's hand and punched him in the face. The other attackers rushed forward, but Zeus took them down one by one, his movements precise and deadly.
Evelyn and Vanessa huddled together, watching in awe as Zeus fought off their attackers. He was like a force of nature, unstoppable and unrelenting.
Finally, the last attacker lay crumpled on the ground, and Zeus turned to face Evelyn and Vanessa. His eyes were still blazing with fury, but there was also something else there, something softer.
"Are you okay?" he asked, his voice low and rough.
Evelyn nodded, feeling a surge of relief wash over her.
But then she saw the blood soaking through Zeus's shirt, and she realized that he had been injured during the fight.
"You're hurt," she said, her voice shaking.
"It's nothing," Zeus said, but even as he spoke, he stumbled and nearly fell.
Evelyn rushed forward, catching him before he hit the ground. "We have to get you help," she said, her voice urgent.
Evelyn could feel the weight of Zeus's body against her as she held him upright. His breathing was ragged, and she could see the pain etched on his face. She knew that he needed medical attention immediately.
"Come on," she said, trying to keep her voice steady. "I'm a doctor. Let me help you."
Zeus shook his head; his eyes were dark with anger. "No," he growled. "My men will be here soon. They'll take care of me."
Evelyn frowned, feeling a surge of frustration. "You don't have time to wait for them," she said. "You're severely injured. I can see it. Please, let me help you."
Zeus hesitated for a moment, his eyes flickering with uncertainty. But then he shook his head again. "I don't need your help," he said, his voice low and rough.
Evelyn could see that he was in pain, and she knew that he was lying. But she also knew that she couldn't force him to accept her help. So instead, she took matters into her own hands.
"Venessa, can you please check and see if there is any alcohol left in the bar?" She looked at her best friend, who quickly nodded and rushed back to the main hall.
"Please be careful," Evelyn shouted behind her.
Zeus looked at her for a moment, his eyes searching hers. Then he nodded, and Evelyn knew that she had won. She tore off her dress from the side, revealing her white blouse and her lacy bra underneath. Zeus's eyes lingered on her for a moment, and Evelyn felt her cheeks flush with heat.
But she didn't let it distract her. She focused on the task at hand, tearing off a piece of her dress to use as a bandage. She pressed it against the wound on Zeus's side, trying to stem the flow of blood. Then she kneeled beside Zeus and began to assess his injuries. He had several deep cuts on his chest and arms, and she could see that one of the wounds was bleeding heavily.
With steady hands, she began to clean the wounds and apply pressure to the bleeding. Zeus winced in pain, but he didn't protest as she worked.
As she tended to his wounds, Evelyn could feel Zeus's eyes on her, watching her every move. She tried to focus on her work, but she couldn't help but feel a magnetic pull towards the stranger who had just saved her life. She could feel Zeus watching her every move, his eyes following her hands as she worked. Evelyn could feel his eyes on her, and it made her feel nervous and excited at the same time.
Finally, she finished giving him first aid, and Zeus stood up, testing his weight on his feet. Evelyn could see that he was still in pain, but he was no longer in danger of bleeding out.
"Thank you," he said, his voice hoarse. "You saved my life."
Evelyn smiled, feeling a surge of satisfaction. "It's my job," she said.
Zeus stepped closer to her, and Evelyn could feel the heat radiating off his body. "What's your name?" he asked, his voice low and sensual.
"Evelyn," she said, feeling a sudden rush of nervousness.
Evelyn felt a shiver run down her spine as Zeus's warm breath caressed her cheek. She could feel the intensity of his gaze, and she knew that there was something more to him than just a handsome stranger who had saved her life.
"I'm Zeus," he said, his voice low and husky.
Zeus. The name sounded familiar, but Evelyn couldn't place it. She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts.
"Zeus," she repeated, testing out the name on her lips. "It's a strong name."
Zeus chuckled, and the sound sent a thrill through Evelyn's body. "I like to think so," he said.
He stepped back, and Evelyn felt a sudden emptiness in her chest. "And I'm the leader of the Italian mafia," he continued.
Evelyn's eyes widened in shock. She had heard of the Italian mafia, of course, but she had never thought she would come face to face with its leader. She could feel a wave of fear wash over her, but at the same time, she felt drawn to Zeus.
"You're the mafia boss?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Zeus nodded, his eyes still fixed on hers. "Yes, I am," he said.
Zeus reached out and brushed a strand of hair away from her face. "Evelyn," he repeated, his voice almost a whisper. "I owe you a debt. And I always pay my debts."
Evelyn's heart skipped a beat as she felt his warm breath on her neck. She could feel the intensity of his gaze on her, and she knew that he was interested in more than just her medical skills.
Zeus stepped closer, his eyes locked on hers. "I want to thank you again for your help today. You saved my life, and for that, I am grateful."
Evelyn tried to step back, but Zeus moved even closer. "But I also want to make you an offer. A job offer, to be exact."
Evelyn's eyes widened in surprise. "A job offer? What kind of job?"
Zeus leaned in, his voice low and dangerous. "I want you to work for me. As my personal doctor."
Evelyn's heart began to race. Working for the mafia was not something she ever thought she would consider, but the thought of being able to help those in need, regardless of who they were, was tempting.
"I... I don't know," she stammered.
Zeus leaned in even closer, his breath hot on her neck. "Think about it. You'll be well compensated, and you'll be doing good work. Think of all the lives you could save."
Evelyn felt a shiver run down her spine. The thought of working for the mafia was terrifying, but the thought of being able to make a difference was even more powerful.
"I'll... I'll think about it," Evelyn spoke, her voice barely above a whisper.
Suddenly, Zeus stepped back, breaking the spell. "I should go," he said, his voice distant. "Thank you again for your help."
Zeus disappeared from her sight, and Evelyn was left standing there, her heart racing with a mixture of fear and excitement. She couldn't believe that she had just met the leader of the Italian mafia and that he had offered her a job. She knew that she needed time to think, but her thoughts were still consumed by the handsome stranger.
Suddenly, Venessa came back, a bottle of alcohol in her hand. "Finally, I found it," she complained. "Do you have any idea how hard it is to find alcohol in this place?"
Evelyn was pulled out of her trance by Venessa's complaining, and she quickly regained her composure. "Thanks, Venessa," she said, taking the bottle from her friend.
Evelyn took the bottle from her and poured a small amount onto a clean cloth. She used it to clean the blood off her hands and face, trying to push the memory of Zeus's intense gaze out of her mind.
"Where is he?" Venessa asked, looking around for the man who was injured.
"He is gone." Evelyn sighed while straightening her dress.
"Where?" Venessa questioned him with a strange expression.
‘I don't know. Let's get out of here; I don't want to stay in this place any longer." They both made their way out of the alley. Evelyn was relieved that their path from Ally to hailing the cab was clear, and luckily they didn't encounter any danger.
As she came back to the apartment, Evelyn's mind was still racing. She couldn't stop thinking about the handsome stranger and the offer he had made. "What's wrong? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," Evelyn said, forcing a smile. "Just a little shaken up from everything that happened."
Venessa nodded, but Evelyn could tell that she wasn't convinced.
"So, who was the handsome stranger?" she asked, taking a seat on the couch.
Evelyn hesitated for a moment before answering. She wasn't sure if she wanted to tell Venessa about Zeus and the job offer. But she decided that she needed someone to talk to, someone to help her make sense of what had just happened. She sighed and sat beside Venessa.
"He's the leader of the Italian mafia," she said, watching as Venessa's eyes widened in surprise.
"The mafia?" Venessa repeated. "That's crappy. What did he want?"
"He wanted me to work for him." "As his doctor," Evelyn said, taking a sip of her drink.
Venessa looked at her, her expression serious. "And what did you say?"
"I said that I would think about it," Evelyn told her.
Venessa looked at Evelyn, her expression serious. "You're not seriously considering it, are you?"
Evelyn looked away, feeling guilty. "I don't know. It's just that he's so charming, and he saved my life."
Venessa shook her head. "That's how they get you, Evelyn. They make you feel like you owe them something, and then they pull you into their world."
Evelyn nodded, knowing that Venessa was right. But at the same time, she couldn't help feeling drawn to Zeus. She couldn't shake the image of his intense gaze on her or the way his voice sounded when he spoke her name.
As the night wore on, Venessa eventually fell asleep on the couch, leaving Evelyn alone with her thoughts. She sat there, staring into space, wondering what she should do. Should she take the job offer, knowing that it would mean risking her safety? Or should she walk away, knowing that she would never have a chance to make a difference like this again?
She didn't know what to do, and the uncertainty was eating away at her. Finally, as the sun began to rise, Evelyn stumbled to her feet and made her way to her bedroom. She knew that she needed to get some sleep to clear her head and make a decision in the morning.
