AMBER
“From now on, you are not the Luna of Night shade pack.”
My eyes widened at Viktor’s announcement in front of the whole medical team.
‘He is breaking our marriage when he is supposed to mark me as his fated mate. Is this the price I get for giving birth to his heir?’
“You can’t do this to me, Alpha…” I fight hard not to break down.
My mind is scattered around. My heart is in chaos. I am torn between asking for clarification and pleading with Viktor to take back his words.
“Oh, trust me Amber. I can. And I will.” Viktor firmly answered.
“But that is not what you promised me—”
“I was blinded when I made a promise with you. I ignore the pack members' opinion about marrying an Omega like you, thinking you are a better fit for the Luna position. Aside from the fact that you are my fated mate. But I was not aware I had married a scheming btch! I can’t tolerate having you as my wife! You had better go back to what you are!”
After roughly rejecting me and ripping me off my status, he left without looking back.
‘He doesn’t even dare look at our newly born baby.’
Rich tears started to slide down my cheeks.
‘Why is all this happening? I thought we would be completely happy now that my baby is here. But…’
I looked at my innocent bundle of joy. Good thing the baby is now sleeping despite the surrounding noise. I didn’t even notice how the medical staff tactically left the delivery room. Sienna is the only person left with me.
“Serves you right, Amber.” I heard Sienna say, full of disgust.
I turned to her, still puzzled about what she had just done.
“What did you tell Alpha Viktor? You know that I wasn’t capable of doing such things. I am not a thief!”
Sienna steps forward, close to my hospital bed. She gave my baby a dangerous glance. And suddenly, I feel very protective of him.
She might be my sister, but the way she looks at my baby, something is telling me she is up to no good.
I cradle my baby in my arms. I may be weak from giving birth, but I will surely give my last strength to protect him.
“Funny isn’t it?” Sienna smirks at the way I act. “How come the Alpha always had eyes for you when you were just an Omega?”
I scrunch my forehead at how thickly she utters every word. I can sense jealousy and envy. Things that I never noticed she has for me.
“Is it because you are prettier and smarter than me?” Sienna spitefully continued. “But I am more capable of being a Luna than you, Amber.”
My jaw tightens at what I hear. I can read between the lines.
“Did you plot some sort of lie just to make Alpha Viktor hate me?”
Now, I can guess what is going on, but I still want to hear the truth from Sienna.
‘Even if it hurts.’
“Yes,” she brazenly admits. “I will never let you get ahead of me, Amber. I am a better fit for your position.”
I can’t believe what I just heard. I shake my head continuously. As if it will help alter what she just said.
“How could you?! You’re my sister!” I asked, remorse laces my voice.
“You’re not my sister, Amber!” She loathingly yells at me.
Sienna gives me the surprise of my life. For a moment, I thought she just said that out of desperation and envy.
‘She doesn’t mean it…’
Ever since our parents died from a car accident, I have decided that I will stay with Sienna through thick and thin. I am not able to finish my studies to support her college. I always support her—financially, morally and psychologically. I work day and night to make ends meet. Until I found my mate. And that changed our lives entirely.
‘I even give up my dreams just so we can stay together, Sienna. I sacrifice everything to feed your wants and needs.’
Yet, is it not enough? Does she need to ruin my marriage and family just to fulfill her never-ending ambition?
“You’re lying, Sienna…” I whispered.
But looking straight into her eyes, I found my answer. She’s not kidding.
“My parents adopted you twenty years ago. There was a war back then, and they didn’t know where to take you. They have a feeling that their parents died in the war. So they decided to take you.”
“No… it’s not true,” I tried to stop her from talking.
Sienna suddenly grabs my jaw and clutches it tightly. “That’s the truth, Amber! Just accept it!”
“No…” I declined to accept what she just told me.
“You don’t believe me? Why do you think I despise you a lot?”
‘Because of your greed.’
I want to talk back. But I just keep it to myself.
I have yet to digest what she reveals to me. It is not easy to accept that the family I once had wasn’t mine all along.
“You know what? Since the day you came into my life, you have stolen everything from me. My life, my parents' love and attention, everything! That’s why when my parents died, it was just and right that you worked hard to support my needs and wants. Actually, it was not enough payment for what you stole from me!”
“I didn’t steal anything from you, Sienna!” I finally snapped at her.
I gather myself together. I can’t let her bully me just like that. Especially now that there is an innocent life depending on me.
“You did! You always did, Amber.” Sienna’s eyes were blazing with so much hatred.
I am not sure where that hatred is coming from. Is it from the thought that her parents' love was divided between us?
‘Or is it because I became Luna instead of her?’
I already know she is eyeing the position right before I find out I am Viktor’s mate. Honestly, I am surprised that she easily accepted it when she heard about my marriage with the Alpha.
I don’t give much attention to that, thinking that she is happy for me.
But now that she is telling me all this, I can tell that she is just pretending all along. She must have plotted all of this while I was living in peace and giving her my full trust.
“And you know what? It’s payback time, Amber.” An evil smile rips on her lips.
I hadn’t processed what she meant when, suddenly, a group of people dressed in white and wearing face masks barged inside the room.
One grabs my arms to stop me from moving. The other is on my dextrose and injects something into it. Fear quickly creeps into me.
“What the hell are you planning to do, Sienna?!”
