Chapter 1
AMBER
“You’re doing a good job, Luna.” I heard the doctor say. I am about to ask about the condition of my baby, but a sudden surge of pain rushes through me. “It is coming. The long awaited heir is coming! Push it, Luna. Push it a little harder,” the doctor encouraged me.
Lying above the delivery bed, profusely perspiring, all I have in mind is to bear with the pain of childbirth.
‘It will be over soon. I need to get through this. I couldn’t wait to meet my baby.’
“Where is Alpha Viktor?” I drew a hard breath while asking the nurse beside me.
“He is on his way here,” the nurse answers my query. “He just had a meeting with your sister. But we already informed him that you are currently in childbirth labor.”
Alpha Viktor is as excited as I am to finally meet our babies and definitely his heir to his throne.
I was twenty when we realized we were fated mates. And he needed a Luna as a custom of the pack. We get married and fall in love with each other in the process.
But her mother had a dying wish back then:
‘Don’t mark that Omega as your mate unless she gives you an heir.’
I can’t forget those words back on her deathbed, a year ago. It gives me cold feet. Viktor is known as a ruthless and cunning alpha of the Night shade pack. And I know, after he made me his wife, he is being gossiped by the pack members for marrying an Omega.
‘If I am not able to give him an heir, it will be the end of me. I’ll be back being an Omega again, mocked and humiliated.’
But then, I am deeply grateful the Moon Goddess blessed me by being pregnant not long after Viktor’s mother died. And much to my delight, the baby inside my tummy is a boy, as per the ultrasound results.
‘All I need now is to give birth successfully and safely.’
I feel the cramps in my belly once more. I wince at the pain and start to push harder.
“There, Luna. Almost there!” The doctor excitedly says, waiting for one final push.
A loud cry of a baby tears the silence of the night.
“The heir is finally out! Congratulations, Luna,” the doctor announced.
I am totally spent, but I decline to succumb to slumber.
“I want to see him,” I told the nurse beside me.
They quickly brought the baby and put him at my side. Immeasurable joy quickly fills my heart.
‘Welcome to the world, my boy.’
I am yet to admire my bundle of joy when the door to the delivery room flies open. Alpha Viktor finally came.
And in contrast to what I expected, he doesn’t look happy right upon seeing us—seeing me giving birth to his heir.
‘He looks furious. Why is he in that kind of mood right now?’
“How dare you?!” Viktor’s voice roars across the entire room.
Confusion and worry suddenly rained down on me.
“What is going on?”
This is not how he is supposed to greet us. I am expecting him to be very happy. Because his long awaited heir has finally come into this world.
“What is going on, huh?” In one swift move, Viktor indignantly clutches my jaw. “You’re asking me what is going on? News flash, Amber. I already knew everything!”
“Everything? What are you saying?” I asked, bewildered at what was happening. “I don’t understand what you are talking about.”
“It’s my fault Amber.” Sienna suddenly came out from behind Viktor. “I just can’t lie to our Alpha. He has to know your plans. Besides, it’s not fair to him.”
“What are you talking about, Sienna?!” I snapped at my elder sister. I am clueless of everything she is saying.
My baby suddenly cries, maybe because of the noise around. I quickly cradled him in my arms. I see how Viktor softens, but it doesn’t last long. His face immediately hardens and turns to me with a fierce look.
“You think you will secure your place just because you gave birth to my heir?” gritting his teeth, he scowls at me. “Well, you are wrong. I can’t believe I was fooled by your innocent, pretty face. You, scheming btch!”
“What the hell is going on? Can you at least tell me why you suddenly resent me? I thought you would be happy to meet our baby. But—”
“I am happy, but not until I find out the truth.”
I open my mouth to ask something, but he immediately cuts me off.
“You’re just using your pregnancy and my baby to live a good life. You are pretending to be a sweet and nice woman, but you are working behind my back,” he growls at me.
“What—”
“If Sienna didn’t show me the evidence that you transferred thirty percent of my assets in your name, I would never know you were planning on exhausting my bank accounts and properties!”
“No, I didn’t…” I shook my head uncontrollably, trying to tell Viktor it was not true.
I don’t even know about his assets, his money and everything he owns. I never walked into his office without his permission. And being an Omega, I don’t have the liberty to study about business and such.
So how come I will be able to do everything he just accused me of?
“It is not true, Viktor. You know me…” I turned to Sienna, asking for her explanation. “What is this, Sienna? Why are you doing this to me?”
“Me? Why me?” Sienna feigns innocence. “Stop this already, Amber. You are my little sister. The only family I have. I can’t let you ruin yourself and walk the wrong path. ”
“No, Sienna!” I angrily snapped at her.
I don’t know why she is doing all this. She is right. We don’t have a family aside from each other. After I married Viktor, I brought her with me and we lived together. We both live a good life. She enjoys what I have. Actually, she enjoys it more than I do.
But what is this? Why is she suddenly making stories to ruin our peaceful lives?
“You’re the one who’s ruining my life, Sienna! Why are you—”
Viktor slaps me hard across the face. His eyes suddenly turned red. It only shows how furious the Alpha is. He can kill just by his sharp gaze.
“I am breaking our marriage, Amber.” Viktor firmly announced.
From my peripheral vision, I noticed the sly smile ripping Sienna’s lips.
