It was hard not to think about what Gunnar said. I thought of the parts where he said that dad asked him to look out for me and that’s why he was with mom, but I thought more of the part where they weren’t a real couple, that their relationship was just a fake and it was all for me. I know that it was only because dad asked him to, but I still found myself on cloud nine thinking about it.
“Hey Sol, we heard your birthday is coming up tomorrow. Any plans?” Maya asked. Her and Jake were the only two coworkers I got along with the most, so they were always asking questions and prying.
“Not really. Might go to club E-40 on Saturday with my friend.”
