Episode 3: No Time For Fear

Two weeks later, an alarm blared through the headquarters. A rival crew had raided one of their warehouses, and half their incoming weapons stock was at risk.

The entire building moved into emergency mode — guards grabbing guns, captains shouting orders, everyone rushing to secure the perimeter. Killian was already heading for the stairs when he saw Elara by the main screens, not running for safety, but typing furiously on her keyboard.

“What are you doing?” he barked. “Get to the secure room — now.”

She didn’t look up. “I’m rerouting the backup convoy and locking down the warehouse’s security doors. If I leave now, they’ll get past the outer gates.”

“That’s not your job!” He strode over, grabbing her arm to pull her away. “You’re an office worker — this is a fight.”

Elara wrenched free so hard she nearly knocked his hand aside. “Don’t touch me! I know this system better than anyone else here. If I go, we lose more than just guns — we lose records, safe codes, and everything we’ve spent months organizing. You want to win this? Let me work.”

Bullets pinged against the windows outside. Most people would have been shaking. Elara’s jaw was set, her eyes locked on the maps, her fingers moving faster than he’d ever seen.

Killian stepped back, covering her position instead. “How long?”

“Three minutes. Then I can cut their power and send our backup straight to their flank.” She glanced at him for half a second, sharp and fierce. “Don’t die before I finish. I still have ten more folders to yell at you about.”

He actually smiled. “I’ll try not to.”

Three minutes later, the warehouse lights went dark. A second later, Elara hit a key. “Backup is in position. They’re trapped.”

Killian looked at her — really looked at her. She was breathing hard, her hair messy, her shirt smudged, and she looked more formidable than any soldier he’d ever led.

“Good work,” he said quietly.

She nodded, already pulling up the next report. “Don’t get soft on me, boss. I still

think your emergency plan is terrible.”
