Chapter 12
The place was all but deserted when Stella arrived at Georges on Waymouth but she knew it wouldn't take long for the after-work crowd to arrive. She ordered a Chardonnay and settled down at a table to watch and wait.
She was glad to be back on days. The late shift did nothing for her sleep pattern and it didn't seem to do anything positive for Brian's either. She wondered how much longer Brian would be with her before either his weight or his wife put an end to his career. He was one of the best partners she'd worked with and she wasn't looking forward to breaking in a new one, but she knew their days together were numbered. She hoped he'd get to retire and not drop dead on her.
She pulled out her mobile and rang her son.
'How was your day, honey?'
'It was okay,' said Josh.
