How lovely of you to reach out to me, my dear! I am terribly sorry for the trouble that Lady Croom has put you through, and wish to assure you that, whatever her stated intentions, I was almost certainly never in any danger.
I have heard such glowing reports of you from my son and my dear Tommy that I should have looked for some opportunity to make your closer acquaintance in any case. I am delighted that this deuced uncomfortable position in which Lady Croom has put you has, at the least, given us a chance to make our introductions one to another.
