Chapter 6: Shadows Inside the Mansion The loud crash echoed through the mansion, breaking the quiet night. Adrian’s expression instantly hardened. “Stay here.” Luna shook her head. “No. They’re here because of me.” “That’s exactly why you should stay.” Another noise came from downstairs—footsteps, slow and deliberate. Adrian moved toward the door, his senses sharp. “Lock it after me.” Before Luna could argue, he stepped out and closed the door behind him. The mansion hallway was dimly lit. Adrian walked silently, his eyes scanning every shadow. Then— A figure appeared at the end of the corridor. Clad in black, face hidden. “You shouldn’t have brought her here,” the man said coldly. Adrian stopped a few steps away. “You picked the wrong house.” The man chuckled. “You have no idea what you’re involved in.” “Enlighten me.” “She doesn’t belong to your world.” Adrian’s voice dropped. “She belongs wherever she chooses to be.” In an instant, the man lunged forward. Adrian reacted quickly, blocking the attack and striking back with force. The fight echoed through the hall—fast, brutal, controlled. But something was different. This man was skilled. Too skilled. “You’re not just a businessman,” the attacker smirked, dodging another hit. Adrian didn’t respond. His movements were precise, trained—far from ordinary. Just as the man reached for a hidden weapon— A soft voice cut through the tension. “Stop.” Both men froze. Luna stood at the end of the hallway, her silver eyes glowing faintly in the dim light. “Leave,” she said calmly. The masked man stepped back slowly. “So you finally show yourself,” he muttered. Luna’s gaze remained steady. “Go back and tell them… I won’t run anymore.” A heavy silence followed. Then, without another word, the man disappeared into the shadows. Adrian turned to Luna, his brows furrowed. “You disobeyed me.” “You were in danger.” “I had it under control.” “Not everything can be controlled, Adrian.” He walked toward her. “Then start explaining.” Luna looked at him for a long moment. “You really want the truth?” “Yes.” She took a deep breath. “My life… is not normal. The people chasing me—they’re not just criminals.” “Then what are they?” Her voice softened, but her words carried weight. “They’re connected to something much bigger… something you’re now part of.” Adrian didn’t step back. “Good,” he said. Luna blinked. “Good?” “I was getting bored of a normal life anyway.” For the first time, she looked at him with uncertainty. And maybe… A hint of fear for what he was willing to risk.
