Chapter 9: The Night She Changed
“Luna… stay with me.”
Adrian’s voice, usually calm and controlled, carried urgency as he held her trembling body. Her grip on his shirt weakened, her silver eyes flickering like a dying light.
“It’s too late…” she whispered.
“No,” Adrian said firmly. “I don’t accept that.”
He lifted her into his arms and laid her carefully on the bed. Her skin felt cold, yet a strange warmth pulsed beneath it—like something fighting to break free.
“Tell me what’s happening,” he demanded.
Luna shook her head weakly. “You shouldn’t see this…”
Before he could respond, her body arched suddenly.
A wave of energy burst from her, strong enough to shake the room. The lights flickered violently, and the windows rattled as if a storm had entered the mansion itself.
Adrian stepped back, stunned.
“Luna—!”
Her eyes opened.
They were no longer soft silver.
They glowed.
A bright, almost blinding light filled them, and her expression became distant—unfamiliar.
“Adrian Vale…” she spoke, but her voice had changed. It echoed, deeper, almost not her own.
His heart pounded.
“What’s happening to you?”
She slowly sat up, her movements unnatural, controlled by something beyond her.
“They’re close,” she said.
“Who?”
“The ones who created me.”
The words froze him.
“Created… you?”
Suddenly, images flashed in his mind again—clearer this time.
A hidden facility.
Scientists.
Experiments.
Luna… lying unconscious in a glass chamber.
Adrian clenched his fists. “They did this to you?”
Her glowing eyes turned toward him.
“I wasn’t meant to live freely,” she said. “I was meant to be controlled.”
Anger burned inside him.
“Then they made a mistake.”
A sudden loud explosion shook the mansion.
Boom.
The walls trembled. Outside, black vehicles surrounded the property.
“They’re here,” Luna whispered.
Adrian’s expression turned deadly calm.
“Good.”
He walked to the window, his eyes scanning the armed men surrounding his home.
“They picked the wrong night to come.”
Behind him, Luna struggled, her body weakening again.
“Adrian… you don’t understand…”
He turned back to her, his voice low but certain.
“I understand enough.”
He moved toward her, gently brushing a strand of hair away from her face.
“No one is taking you from me.”
Outside, the gates crashed open.
Inside, the cold CEO stood ready.
And for the first time in his life—
He had something worth fighting for.
