Chapter 4: A Dangerous Warning The cold night air surrounded them as Adrian stood in front of the old bookstore, staring at Luna. “If you stay near me, Adrian Vale… your life will never be safe again.” Her words were calm, but they carried a weight he could feel. Adrian stepped closer. “Do I look like a man who scares easily?” Luna’s silver eyes met his. “You should.” “I don’t even know your name.” She hesitated for a moment. “Luna.” The name stayed in his mind like a melody. “Luna,” he repeated softly. “Now tell me why someone like you keeps appearing and disappearing.” “You ask too many questions.” “And you avoid too many answers.” For the first time, Luna laughed quietly. It was soft and beautiful, making Adrian’s chest tighten. Then her expression changed. “Go home, Adrian.” “No.” “You don’t understand.” “Then make me understand.” Before Luna could reply, the sound of tires screeching echoed through the street. A black car stopped at the corner. Three men stepped out, dressed in dark clothes. Luna’s face turned pale. “They found me.” Adrian immediately moved in front of her. “Stay behind me.” The men approached quickly. “There she is,” one of them said. “Boss wants the girl alive.” Adrian’s eyes turned icy. “Leave now.” The men laughed. “Who are you?” “Your last mistake.” The first man charged forward. Adrian dodged and punched him hard, sending him crashing to the ground. The second man rushed in, but Adrian struck him with brutal precision. The third pulled out a knife. Luna gasped. “Adrian!” Before the man could attack, Adrian grabbed his wrist and twisted it until the knife fell. With one final hit, the man collapsed. Silence returned to the street. Adrian straightened his coat as if nothing happened. Luna stared at him in shock. “You’re injured,” she said, noticing blood on his hand. “It’s nothing.” She gently took his hand. The moment her fingers touched him, Adrian felt that same strange warmth again. “Why did you protect me?” she whispered. He looked directly into her eyes. “Because I already know one thing.” “What?” “I’m not letting you disappear again.”
