Liliana’s Point of View
Her Biggest Problem
Watching my mom this happy makes me the happiest daughter alive as well. Staring at her from the door genuinely laughing because of the comedy variety show, I realized that I was so lucky to have her and she was lucky to have me as well.
"Why are you just standing there?" I didn't even notice she was already staring at me. "Come here, you fool! You haven't been here for days!"
A small chuckle came out from my lips. This is one of the normal trippings of me and my mom toward each other. I sat down on the chair near her, put out all the things I bought, and put it in the fridge after.
She adjusted the volume down until her gaze went on me. "How's your conversation with the doctor, Liliana?" she seemed a bit worried.
"I told him that we'll continue your medications, mom," I honestly asserted.
She stopped whatever she was doing. Judging by her facial expression, it seems like part of it explains she doesn't want it and the half says she was at ease.
"Liliana, it must be a waste of money if–"
"You don't need to worry about it. I found a way," I said then glanced away.
"Is that you borrowing money again? My love, you are still a student and as much as I wanted to, I only want you to focus on your goals and school…" she explained with a very soft yet meaningful tone.
I groaned. "What about you? What about me when I'm going to lose you?"
Both of us fell into silence. Honestly, I really don't like this kind of conversation. All my life, I grew up with only my mom and nothing else. As much as I wanted to, I wanted to give her everything back even if it means I'd drop out.
Her cancer is getting worse. The only thing we could do was prolong her life. And the saddest part here was, my mom didn't know she had an incurable disease.
"Liliana–"
To avoid getting a fuss with her, I immediately ended the conversation by cutting her off.
"I already told the doctor about it. Rest assured that I'm safe and… working. I won't neglect my health if that's what you are thinking."
She just took a deep breath while I started to peel the apple for her. I spent the whole day inside the hospital with her since I'm not doing anything. But then, after a while, I shortly told my mom that I needed to go home to attend my part-time job.
Having a heavy chest wasn't easy. I chose to walk down the streets until my phone rang in the middle of appreciating the view.
"Veronica!" I exclaimed when I saw her name popping up on my phone. "Hey, how are you?"
"Damn, girl! I have a lot of things to tell you! Apparently, a man who looks and smells expensive f****d me!" I could even hear her giggling voice amidst the giggling.
I snorted. "Is that the reason why you're calling me?"
She chuckled. "Yeah! Of course, duh. By the way, where are you? I should tell you the details in person!"
I looked at my wristwatch and saw that I only have less than an hour to arrive at my working place or else, I might get late and be scolded.
"I don't think I can do it today. Maybe next time, V?"
She giggled. "Argh. You're so boring," I could imagine my friend rolling her eyes. "Fine. Keep safe, babe!"
As soon as the call ended, I put my both hands in my blazer's pocket and accidentally halted in front of the tall building named CTLN. Seeing how elevated the said company it makes me wonder what would be my life if I were on top and not on the verge of extinction.
Life wasn't easy. Poverty is the first and top problem I'm facing the same with Veronica. Seeing these kinds of people and billionaires around makes me think that there must be a better future ahead of me.
That I am not obliged to wake up early in the morning and overwork myself at night. Because honestly, it was very tiring.
I remained standing on the building in front, mesmerized and imagining things that is out of my hands. CTLN is one of the biggest companies in New York and I believe, they make money through it. For sure, their monthly revenue exceeds a million dollars.
I was about to leave when a car stopped near the door. When she comes out, I suddenly feel envious seeing her fashionable dresses and accessories all over her body. Well, she's tall and pretty. I can say she's way older than me but she's so damn fine.
"How I wish I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth," I said as I breathed heavily as I continued to walk down this way.
For sure, my mom wouldn't be able to resist what she was feeling. And, doctors would treat her right away after knowing that she has cancer and prolonging her life. What I wanted for my mom was to stay in the VIP rooms but our budget wasn't that enormous for me to spend that much.
You know, if you're not that rich and only have enough money, you should be wise about how to spend it and that's exactly what I'm doing.
Seeing complete families eating in a restaurant just accidentally makes me envious. Above all things, I'm going to pass by makes me feel insecure and hella stressed. Seeing them eating five more dishes in one sitting makes me drool.
They are extremely lucky, honestly. If the time comes that I'm already successful, I told my mom to help there hang so she could see me achieve my dreams and be loved by a mother who has been very kind and loving to me.
"Damn," I said when I heard my tummy cooing.
Seeing Manila's call makes me think I should hurry. They are shortlisted when it comes to waitresses so without further hesitation, I quickly got onto the bus that will take me to my destination.
