She woke to the sound of Adrian moving around the room. Quiet, trying not to wake her, but the old floorboards creaked with every step.
"What time is it?" she asked, her voice thick with sleep.
"Almost noon. I let you sleep as long as I could." He was packing their few belongings, methodical and efficient. "We need to move soon. Viktor spotted a police car cruising by twice. Could be nothing, but..."
"But we don't take chances." She sat up carefully, body aching from the birth and the chaos that followed. "Where's the baby?"
"Nadia has her. Gave her a bottle about an hour ago." Adrian paused, looked at her. "You needed the rest."
She did. She felt more human now, more capable of thinking clearly. The fog of exhaustion had lifted slightly.
