Blurb

In the quiet, salt-soaked town of Iselmere, where the mist hangs heavy like a secret and the waves seem to whisper forgotten names, the past is never truly buried—it lingers in the fog, in the crumbling cliffs, and in the hearts of those left behind.Eliot Moreau, once a promising artist, now lives as a recluse in the decaying mansion perched at the edge of town. Rumors swirl like storm winds around his family—a tragic accident, a vanished brother, and a scandal that drove the once-prestigious Moreaus into disgrace. Eliot speaks to no one, paints only the sea, and drapes his soul in silence and shadow. But everything changes with the arrival of Kai Sato, an ambitious university student and freelance journalist drawn to Iselmere by its lore—and by the chilling mystery of the Moreau estate. With a camera slung over his shoulder and stubborn fire in his heart, Kai intends to peel back the veil of the town’s myths, exposing the truth that’s been buried for decades. What begins as an investigation turns into something deeper as Kai and Eliot’s paths collide. Tentative conversations by candlelight evolve into something tender, then fierce. Beneath Eliot’s guarded quietude, Kai discovers beauty, grief, and brilliance. And beneath Kai’s bright smile, Eliot sees his own longing mirrored—a desire not just to be seen, but to be truly known. But the past is not done with them. As Kai edges closer to uncovering what really happened that night so many years ago, Eliot must face a reckoning he’s long avoided. Love blooms in the darkest corners, but can it survive the light of truth?

Whispers in the Fog
Kai Sato arrives in Iselmere just as autumn begins to grip the coast with its damp chill. The town is smaller than he expected—narrow cobblestone streets winding past shuttered shops, a sleepy harbor where boats creak in the tide, and a lighthouse that hasn’t worked in years. The locals are polite but guarded, their eyes flicking toward the ocean as if expecting something—or someone—to rise from it. Kai is here on assignment for a university feature, but the truth is more personal. He’s always been drawn to lost things, to the silence between facts, and nothing calls to him louder than the mystery of Eliot Moreau—the boy from the once-prominent Moreau family who disappeared from the public eye after a scandal that left one brother dead and the town echoing with unanswered questions. The crumbling mansion on the cliffs, the whispers of madness and murder, the beautiful recluse who never leaves—it’s a story waiting to be told. Everyone in town warns him to stay away from the estate. Some say the place is cursed. Others claim the Moreau heir is dangerous, half-mad from grief and guilt. But Kai, ever the skeptic and ever the seeker, can’t resist. Curiosity fuels him—so does something else. A pull he can’t explain. As if the mansion itself is waiting for him. On the fourth day of his stay, a storm rolls in off the sea—violent and sudden, thunder cracking the sky in two. Kai, caught on the coastal path, takes shelter in the overgrown gates of the Moreau estate. Wind howls through the twisted iron. The mansion looms like a shadowed sentinel, its windows glowing faintly like tired eyes. Desperate and soaked to the bone, he pushes through the gate and up the stone steps. When Eliot answers the door, it’s with a candle in hand and suspicion in his eyes. He’s taller than Kai imagined, wrapped in a thick sweater that looks older than he is, his dark hair tousled and damp from the sea air. He doesn’t speak at first—just stares. There's something fragile about him, like a glass figure hardened by fire but still one breath away from shattering. Kai stammers out his name, an apology, an excuse—something about the storm and losing his way. Eliot hesitates. His lips part as if to tell him to leave. But then their eyes meet—truly meet—and for a fleeting second, something unspoken passes between them. Recognition. Curiosity. Loneliness. Eliot steps aside. Wordlessly, he lets Kai in. The warmth inside is dim, but it wraps around Kai like a hesitant embrace. Candlelight dances across canvases propped against the walls—mostly of the sea, wild and infinite. The silence between them is thick, but not empty. It hums with possibility. Outside, the storm rages on. Inside, a different kind of turbulence begins to stir.
