Hidden Away

Chapter 12

He reaches up and caresses my face with his hand, I close my eyes and lean into it. Suddenly, I feel his soft lips pressed onto mine.

My mind is so ready for this, but my body is saying something else. I’m fighting the urge to push him away. I assume he feels me stiffen because he simultaneously pulls back and gets up off the bed. He starts pacing back and forth while holding his hand over his mouth. I stared at him with a confused look in my face,” I don’t understand, Alex….” I told him in an almost whisper.

“I realized that I had feelings for you a while ago. Lisa had always been so paranoid about our relationship, but I just always shrugged it off,” he began to explain while finally stopping in place and looking at me,”then when I got sick a few weeks ago, you took care of me…. And it just clicked for me.” He trailed off.

I sat there in shock. I’ve been waiting for this for three years now. I've always wondered what it would be like to feel his lips on mine, his skin touching mine, making love. But now, every fiber of my being was telling me to run in the other direction. It's truth time.

“Honestly, Alex, if you would have told me this a few days ago I would have been all over you. But now…” I trailed off. I don’t even know how I feel, how am I supposed to explain it to somebody else?

“Is it that guy from last night?” He asked with a frown.

“Maybe, I don’t know.” I couldn’t even confess that I didn’t even get the beautiful strangers name. How lame am I? Fawning over a guy I barely met.

Alex finally says something after standing in awkward silence,” Well I’ve got some stuff I need to do, see you later..” he quickly turns to leave before I have a chance to respond.

I buried my face into my hands. What is going on?

Danny POV

“Well, we were right. That Alpha last night is already affecting Isabella.” Alex bursted into my room.

“You still need to knock, doofus. I could’ve been naked.”

“Yeah, yeah.” He slumped into my desk chair. I looked up at my brother from the laundry I was folding. He thought of the idea to tell Isabella he had feelings for her to see how she would react. I guess it was more than an idea because he’s looking pretty bummed right now.

“You really do have feelings for her, don’t you?” I pressed.

He sighs,” it doesn’t matter.” He grumbles and then gets up to leave my room.”I just want her to be safe and happy” he says over his shoulder as he leaves.

I felt bad for my brother, but he knew what we were getting ourselves into when we accepted this mission. We just needed to keep her out of sight and out of mind for a bit longer. Her meeting her mate would ruin everything though. We quickly needed to find out who this Alpha wolf was and figure out a plan. I could only hold him off for so long.
