Chapter 5

289 Words
Kala was folding laundry in the living room when Zave walked in. Their eyes met, and for a moment, the air seemed to vibrate with tension. Kala felt a shiver run down her spine as Zave's gaze lingered on her. "Need help with that?" Zave asked, his voice low and rough. Kala shook her head, feeling a flutter in her chest. "I've got it." Zave nodded and started to walk past her, but then stopped. "Kala?" he said, his voice soft. "Yes?" she replied, looking up at him. "Stay away from the room," Zave said, his eyes intense. "It's not safe." Kala's heart skipped a beat. "What do you mean?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Zave's expression turned guarded. "Just...stay away," he repeated, before turning and walking away. Kala watched him go, feeling a mix of frustration and fear. What was going on? And why was Zave being so secretive? She thought back to the room she'd discovered, wondering what could be so important. As she continued folding laundry, Kala couldn't shake the feeling that Zave's warning was more than just about the room. It was about something deeper, something that threatened to upend her entire world. She glanced around the room, feeling like she was being watched. The shadows seemed to grow longer, and the air grew thick with anticipation. Suddenly, Kala heard a creak outside. She turned to see Zave standing in the doorway again, his eyes locked on hers. "What?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Zave's gaze seemed to bore into her soul. "I'm serious, Kala," he said, his voice low. "Stay away." And with that, he turned and disappeared into the darkness, leaving Kala feeling more confused than ever.
