"Claire?" My brows knitted into a frown as I watched her take two steps closer to me, her eyes holding so much grudge.
"I see you've grown bolder to be able to walk into a party you have no business attending, you lying witch!" there was a crazed look in her eyes and I could tell that i might have pressed more of her wrong buttons than I thought.
"I see you've not learned anything from the last time as well" I watch her face turn frosty at that and she threw me a glare.
"I do not think this is the time to run that pretty mouth of yours. No one likes you here" her two little followers drew closer wanting to seem intimidating, with their fangs out.
I looked around and it almost seems like everyone was excited to watch the drama instead of stop it.
"Are you sure about that?" I met with her gaze with a smirk "I hear the king doesn't like it when anyone touches what belongs to him"My lips curled, "I'm sure you don't want to do anything that might incur his wrath"
Anger flashed in her eyes and even if I was just calling a bluff, I played my act safe. Praying that the king doesn't actually show up, if not I was definitely dead. Coupled with the fact he was still mad at me.
Instead, I let my smile spread over my face, leaning into her ears"No matter what you may do, the king... Would only have eyes for his mate. I'm sure you know how the mate bond works"
"I heard no Alpha can resist it..." I chuckled when I saw the horror in her eyes.
"What do you know?" Claire laughed at my face, a crazy look in her eyes "Even if he wants you, do you think you could be more than a mistress? dont tell me..." She ambiguously placed a hand on her lips chuckling "You really think you could be his Luna? A witch? You think anybody here would accept it?" She patted my shoulder and somehow even if I never planned on being anyone's Luna, something inside of me tasted bitter.
"Isn't it wise to wait for me to be a mistress before celebrating? Who knows... The king might really make me one, I hear he's not exactly the obedient king..."
The air was very stiff, I could tell everyone was enjoying the banter.
"What's going on?" A voice too cheerful to actually be real caught in.
I raised my gaze only to meet with the lightest hazel eyes I have ever seen.
With a skin that was safe to be called pale.
"Princess Lena!" Claire's eyes lightened up and she was quick to exchange hugs.
"She's so pretty" someone squealed
"I know right? She's a goddess" another whispered in excitement.
"Ahh, my dream face"
I didn't know who this princess Lena was, but I honestly didn't want to spend one more minute in this atmosphere.
After making sure I was not in the limelight I tiptoed out but at the last minute when I almost breathed in relief for escaping the crowd, when someone pointed it out.
"She's running away"
Now every eyes turned to me, truly I was now a prey.
I awkwardly turned, pretending to adjust my dress but no one was buying it, they all had mocking smirks on their lips, few had pity in their eyes while some had arrows in theirs.
It suddenly felt like the whole world was after me, I looked around and there... the king was right there watching me with no emotion in his eyes like he always was.
I wanted to speak, to defend myself, to show them my claws cause I knew k wasn't such a weak witch as they were all thinking but something, something I couldn't recognize waited for the king to step in for me. To at least do something but nothing happened, he was watching like the other spectators were.
There was a pain in my chest, a bitterness spreading dangerously along my lungs, I tasted it in my mouth. My eyes were wet but I didn't allow any of it show.
What did I expect ?
Whether he was the son of the person who slaughtered my family or the offspring of that person they all came from thesame bloodline.
They were all heartless.
I was glad for this coverage, at least now I didn't need to come up with any excuses that he might be different from the king that took away my family, I could still exert my revenge with no clams.
I looked away from him, my lips opening to let my claws out when I heard a voice reverberate the hall.
"Claire, don't you think ganging up on Maeve is a little... Too pathetic?" He's voice carried a taunting gesture.
It was the stranger from last night, only that he now seem playful which was completely different from his scary face when he saw me holding the torn picture last night.
What even surprised me more, was how he swung an arm on my shoulder like I was his buddy or something.
"I'm sure Maeve here is too busy to entertain the likes of you" he turned to me and grinned with a wink.
I was dumbfounded by all of it.
"C'mon Maeve, how about we go see the new books the librarian brought earlier?" I was too speechless to stop him from leading me out and I was sure the others were too.
"Stop right there, Leonard" It was the king, his voice sounded so cold, that shivered from it.
"Your highness, is there a problem?"
The king walked down to us, his steps powerful and I was sure there was some kind of bad blood between the two.
"Where are you taking my mate to?"
My brow shot up at his insinuation.
Oh, so he knew I was his mate now?
"We just have a few things to discuss, right Maeve?" He nudged me but I was definitely not going to be the bomb that will explode whatever the two had against each other, so I only shrugged.
"By the way... Don't tell me the rumours about you being unable to leave your mate for even a second is true?" There was something taunting about the question but I couldn't place any of it.
It was as if the crowd were suddenly giving signal as they all began to murmur.
"My king, it's time for the mating ritual to take place" it was the Kings gamma. I have only seen him once, but noticed how he almost never left the King's side.
That was when I noticed that there were other figures around which were watching with amusement which apparently where guests of high ranks invited to the mating ritual.
