Lilian:
We werewolves were unable to speak after transforming. We were only able to howl as wolves.
Right now, the wolf hell-bent on destroying me was standing right in front of me, watching me with a derisive gaze, his eyes seemingly mocking me, saying, “Run, let's see you keep running.”
It disgusted me to no end.
"Awooo…" I made a loud call for help even though I had no idea if it would help me. It was better than doing nothing, though. Maybe someone would pass by and hear me.
The man was nearly twice my size in wolf form. His brown fur was already wet from the rain storm, and his eyes were cold with killing intent.
He suddenly brandished his claws at me, and the tips of his claws looked even sharper than the dagger he threatened me with before.
I understood his intentions. He was going to ruin my pretty face with those sharp claws of his.
Just wonderful.
God damn it! What kind of asshole was out there targeting me?
He seemed to believe that I had no other way out. He shook the rainwater off his body before slowly approaching me. His steps were very light, but I could seemingly hear them.
They sounded heavy with a strong sense of oppression.
What should I do? What was I supposed to do now? Was I supposed to just sit there and take it?
Just as he raised his right claw to the air, a wolf's howl sounded in the distance, followed by the appearance of a familiar-looking wolf. The wolf lunged at my attacker and fought fiercely with him.
William, it was William!
Thank God, my best friend had come to save me!
Yeah, kill him! Scratch up his face with your claws!
Unfortunately, it was clear that the man was also a trained fighter. Even though William had the initiative, the struggle soon evened out for both of them.
Logically speaking, a helpless Omega such as myself should run away if I were to encounter such a fight and find a safe place to hide. Otherwise, I should turn tail and run just in case I got caught up in the ripples of their battle. However, what had happened just now really upset me. I very much wanted to see that bad guy defeated by William and I wanted to find out just who it was that had sent him to hurt me.
Therefore, instead of running, I stood aside and cheered William on.
I knew it was a stupid thing to do. I might even distract William from his fight and get him injured, but I could not care less now. I was both angry and curious.
I was about to have my face ripped up by this wicked man. No one would just sit still and allow someone to ruin their face, especially not a woman gifted with such beauty as I.
It was simply more painful than just dying.
William lived up well to his title as our town's strongest Beta. He soon gained the upper hand and took control of the fight. When that bastard was about to get defeated, he turned around and ran.
Damn it, how could a warrior run in the heat of the battle? It was simply shameful!
William did not chase after him. He was probably worried that I would be in danger again if he left me, so he turned to look at me instead.
He shook the droplets off his body and walked toward me, a worried look clear in his eyes.
I shook my head, indicating that I was not hurt, then I turned back to look for the clothes that I left behind while I was running away.
I could not go home looking like this. It would surely worry my parents sick.
It was a shame we did not have clothes that could accommodate both our forms as wolf and man. I had once heard that men would deliberately run naked through the streets and scare the young women, laughing all the way.
It was truly in bad taste.
No, focus Lilian! I accidentally let my mind wander again.
William took me to a cave where we could shield ourselves from the rain for a while, then he left by himself. By the time he came back, he was in human form and holding a fresh set of clothes for me.
William watched the entrance of the cave like a gentleman so that I could transform back in peace and get dressed.
Once I emerged from the cave dressed, he built a fire for us inside.
I spread my hands over the fire to warm them and waited until I stopped shivering before asking, "Thank you for saving me, William. How did you end up here?"
William stoked the flame with a branch and answered, "I met your mother on her way home. She was worried about you, so she asked me to come pick you up. Thankfully, your scent is special and easy to find. I was able to figure out your general direction without much effort. If it were anyone else, their scent would probably have been drowned out by the rain."
Even though we werewolves were almost indistinguishable from humans when we were not transformed, we retained our keen sense of smell, a very important trait for us. It allowed Alphas and Betas to find the right Omegas for them.
For an Omega like me, my scent was what attracted the Alphas and Betas. They say that every Omega smelled different. It was a natural thing that could not be changed with the use of perfume, but we were unable to smell it ourselves.
"Maybe you're the only one who thinks I smell special, not like I can smell it myself either way." I did not believe what William had said. I thought that he was only exaggerating because he liked me.
Even though every Omega smelled different, it was said that a Luna bonded with a Wolf King gave off a special scent. Otherwise, what else would make her stand out to the strongest and most powerful Alpha?
Wait, why was I thinking about the Wolf King again?
No, forget about it, forget about it! Who wants to think about that stupid man anyway?
William did not try and explain himself, he just smiled at me. Then, he asked whether I was hungry or not and offered to find me something to eat.
My childhood friend was always so gentle and understanding. I wondered what sort of Omega a good man like him would end up tying the knot with in the future.
“No need, don't bother. Let's just hurry home as soon as the rain stops.”
William nodded, then his expression suddenly looked serious. He asked apprehensively, "Lilian, what the hell was the matter with that man earlier?"
Just the mere mention of that bastard made me angry and my mood soured in an instant.
I told him briefly about what had happened earlier and highlighted the fact that whoever was behind him seemed to hate my face and wanted it ruined.
William frowned when he heard my story. He growled, "What a damned bastard… They're human scum, that's what they are! I should have gone after him, then I might be able to find out who's behind him."
After that, he looked apologetic and said sorry to me.
I shook my head and reassured him that I did not mind. I knew that he was merely worried about me when he chose to check up on me rather than chase after the man. I understood how he felt, and that was why I did not blame him for making that choice.
"Lilian, that man failed this time, but it's very likely that he'll be back again. I think it would be for the best if you stayed at home for now," William said worriedly.
I understood his kind intentions, but there was no way I could just leave my mother to set up the stall by herself every day, so I shook my head. "There's no way I can stay at home forever, but I assure you that I'll watch after myself, so don't worry.”
Rather than convince me further, William just looked silently at me and sighed.
