Diana:
I never thought that I would one day become the fiancée of the Wolf King.
I knew I came from a good family and had the beauty to support it, but becoming a Wolf King's Luna was a very demanding position. Not just anyone could be chosen because they came from good families and were beautiful.
That being so, when my father gleefully informed me that I had been chosen by Wolf King Arthur to become his fiancée, I was flabbergasted.
At first, I felt overwhelmed, but then, I felt excited.
I had seen the current Wolf King before. It was just one glance, but I fell in love with that outstanding man.
That was several years ago. Father took me to a banquet held by the Wolf King, and my heart raced uncontrollably when he walked up to me.
Oh, God... I never knew that such a handsome, strong, and charming man could exist in this world.
I dare say that all the girls at the party were smitten by him. There was a constant stream of bold girls going up to him and inviting him to a dance, but he politely refused all of them.
He had said that he would only dance with his Luna, and the only person he would ever dance with was his wife.
That was the moment that I fell for him.
What a deeply devoted man. How wonderful would it be if such a man belonged to me? However, I knew the odds were against me. That was because the Luna, who was to be chosen by the Wolf King, had to be the best of them all.
Yet I, on the other hand, was not.
Once I returned home, I began studying hard in order to improve myself. Even though I knew it was unlikely, I still wanted to try my best. Once I had grown to become a fine woman, maybe he might choose me, then.
God must have heard my prayers for I really did get chosen by him.
I, Diana, was going to become Wolf King Arthur's Luna.
When my father broke the news to me, I was so ecstatic that I could cry.
How wonderful! To have such a handsome and devoted man as my husband... Could anything be more wonderful than this? However, as I was immersed in joy and preparing myself to become a good Luna, a good friend of mine told me a secret. She had said that Arthur was not the devoted man everyone thought he was. He always had a partner that he kept by his side for him to vent his desires on, and the current one had been with him for three years!
I almost lost my mind when I heard the news.
No, it could not be! It was impossible!
When I investigated the matter with the help of my family's connections, I discovered that what my friend had told me was indeed the truth.
Since Arthur was 18, he had kept a woman by his side, but they were generally swapped out within a year or so. The current one had been with him for three whole years. It seemed like he would never get sick of her.
What was I worth, then? Was I supposed to share my husband with another woman?
No! I would not agree to such a thing!
"Diana, please understand. You're 28 this year. He's a healthy man with desires that need venting. He cannot possibly keep himself chaste for a Luna who had not even appeared yet. However, you should know that a Wolf King and his Luna are a pair blessed by God himself. Once a Wolf King gets married, there will be no other women by his side."
The words of my friend helped very much to console me.
Even though I still felt sad about it, she was right. A man cannot control his desires, and lust was merely that. It did not represent love.
Still, I wished to know what sort of woman he would choose to spend three whole years with. To keep him hooked for three years, could she truly be nothing more than a bed partner?
I was afraid, worried sick that they fancied each other.
I was a proud woman who did not care to force myself between lovers, but I hoped that my lover could be loyal to me alone.
Thus, I investigated that woman in secret and found out who she was.
By some stroke of luck, the town where I was going to meet my husband was also the town where the woman happened to live. I decided to stay around for a few days so that I could see the woman who had been with my fiancé for three years with my very own eyes.
I had to make sure that this Lilian person was truly beautiful, and that I, a beauty well acknowledged by society, was prettier than her.
If she had been born into a good family, I even wondered whether she would have been chosen to become his Luna instead, for she truly was a great beauty. Even I was dazzled by her.
I understood now why Arthur held onto her for three years. What man could refuse such a beauty?
I felt jealous, but I suppressed those ugly emotions. I was to become the Wolf King's Luna, and a good Luna should not have such ugly thoughts in her.
I never expected her to have such hostility toward me, but it did make sense on second thought. After all, the way I dug her up must have been a great shock to her.
When she had asked me with her voice filled with malice whether or not I was curious about Arthur's skills in bed and what position he liked, I was so mad that I was shaking.
Oh God, how could such vile words be spewed from a lady's mouth?
Then, I realized that she was doing it on purpose. She was trying to put me off deliberately.
At first, I truly was upset, but my upbringing would not allow me to use such words against her. Later, after I figured her out, I actually thought that this woman was quite adorable.
She was just like a spiky porcupine. Even though she was not very threatening, she could still puff up her spines and force her enemy back.
I could tell that she was afraid that other people would find out about her past as a bed partner, especially her parents.
I had investigated her thoroughly and knew that the reason why she sold herself was so that she could pay off a debt that her father owed. So, I could understand why it scared her.
When she mentioned Arthur's name with such disgust in her voice, I was sure then that she indeed held no feelings for him. It was just as she had said, Arthur was her sponsor and she was merely a beneficiary in a working relationship.
I felt relieved.
As long as she had no feelings for Arthur, everything was fine. To be honest, if she did love Arthur, then I did not think I could beat her considering her good looks and her past with him.
Fortunately, she was not the least bit interested. In fact, she even hated Arthur.
I felt amused by her. If I were a man, then I would probably like her very much as well.
