Chapter 16

Lilian: Diana seemed disappointed at what I had said, and even a little unconvinced. I rolled my eyes. I was telling her the truth so why would she not believe me? Could it be that she truly had no idea that men would go out and find partners just to satisfy their s****l needs without any care for feelings? If a man truly did fancy you, how could he treat you as a simple s*x partner and make you come and go as he pleased? If a man truly loved a woman, he would want the world for her and never make her feel lowly. Heh, calling it a bed partner was just putting it nicely. It was not inaccurate to call me a w***e. Only, regular prostitutes generally would not be able to pick and choose their customers. They may even have to take on several clients a day. For higher-class ladies, they had the basic right to choose who they were going to sleep with and serve only the clients they chose. Maybe the young lady was too well-protected by her family to know about such dirty business, but I was not going to explain the world to her. As for the reason... of course, that was because my bruised sense of pride was acting up again. Even though I had done something dirty, I did not want it to be known. Even I thought that it was hypocritical. "Very well, Miss Lilian. I think I understand now. I'm very sorry to have disturbed you and your family today." Diana's voice interrupted my thoughts, only then did I realize that I had gotten distracted again. Oh... when am I ever going to fix this bad habit of mine? I nodded indifferently and asked, "Since you're done here, can I go now?" Diana nodded. "Of course. Oh, and by the way, Arthur does not know that I sought you out today, so may I trouble you to keep this a secret from him?" I frowned. So, it was not that damned bastard who sold me out and I had blamed him for nothing? Well, I did not blame him for nothing. If it were not for him, then I would never have encountered such an unlucky thing today. At the end of it all, that damned bastard was the main cause of this mess. "Please rest assured, Miss Diana. My relationship with your fiancé ended long ago and we have not been in contact since. You don't have to worry about me seeing him at all. Of course, I hope that you will keep an eye on him for me too, as I would also like to avoid seeing him if possible. If you ever bump into me, just pretend we don't know each other. We’re complete strangers from hereon. Is that all right with you?" Even though I mentioned Arthur's name with such disgust on my tongue, Diana ended up laughing instead. Goodness, was having your fiancé scorned by someone else anything to be happy about? "Very well, I understand. Please, don't worry. Your past and what we talked about today will not leave my lips, especially not to your parents." Diana smiled reassuringly. I gave her a sidelong glance and nodded in approval. I guess this young lady was not as dumb as I thought after all. At least she could tell what I was bothered about. "In that case, I will take my leave now. I bid you happiness. See you again... ah, no... it'll be better if we never saw each other again." I waved at her and turned around, walking away with ease. I really do hope we never had to see each other again. If something like this were to happen again, I fear that my poor little heart would not be able to take it. As soon as I reached home, my mother was eager to know how I got along with Miss Diana and where we had gone. I brushed her off with a perfunctory answer. "Miss Diana really is both beautiful and generous. It's no wonder why the Wolf King chose her to be his fiancée." My mother seemed to like Diana very much. Her eyes would glitter at the mere mention of her, but then, she suddenly sighed and looked at me with regretful eyes. "Oh, my dear Lilian. You're no worse than that girl, you know? It's just a pity that you were born into our family. Otherwise, you could surely have been picked by the Wolf King to become his Luna with your beauty." I almost choked when I heard that. Me? The Wolf King's Luna? She wants me to marry that bastard? Oh no, what a terrible nightmare that would be... Having to see him for three years had taken enough of a toll on me. It felt like my brain was going to be squeezed dry from trying to please him. If I were to stay with him for life... Goodness me... If that truly did happen, then please just escort me out of that pitiful life. I would rather lose my life than stay with a miserable man such as him. It was a terrifying thought. "Mother, first of all, a Wolf King does not choose his Luna based on looks alone. Moreover, I think it's a very happy thing for me to be born into this family. I have the world's best mother and father. I love you two." I hugged my mother and rested my head on her shoulder. Being born into this family never left me wanting more. Even though my family was poor, my parents did all they could to give me the best life possible. A werewolf cannot be too greedy. We had to learn contentment. Delusions of grandeur would only make one miserable in the long run. This was something that my father taught me, and I agreed completely with it and lived by it as my motto. My mother stroked my hair gently and it felt so good that I narrowed my eyes, I subconsciously began rubbing my face on her shoulder. "Aw, our Lilian's just like a cute little kitten. Your mother and father love you very much as well. You're our precious little baby," my mother cooed while stroking my hair. "I know, that's why I want to stay with you two forever." "Are you sure? Then, what about poor William? Unless... are you perhaps thinking of bringing him home to live with us? Even if he agrees, I'm afraid his parents would have their objections." The warmth that had been building up before was gone in an instant. My eyes widened in shock. William, William... Why does this name always seem to pop up when I'm talking to my parents? I should never have used him as an excuse back then to cover up for me. To hide a lie, a thousand lies would be needed... Who was it that said that? I could not remember, but it made sense nonetheless. How I regret mentioning William back then. Oh God, could you turn time back for me? I would do anything to go back to that day, then I could have made up a different lie to my parents instead. I could hardly stand my parents talking about William any longer. They almost spoke as if we were already an item. I decided to put a constant end to his presence in this family. "Mother, I actually have someone else that I like, and it's not William. William really is nothing more than a friend to me." I looked up at my mother and put on an earnest expression. My mother was taken aback. Soon, her expression turned to joy. She clasped my hands and asked me urgently, "Dearie, pray tell. Who is it? You'll tell your mother, won't you?" "It's the butler of the nice woman who helped me at the royal city. We made plans to meet again in two years after the end of his contract with her. He said he'll come and meet me here when the time comes." I tried to sound as convincing as possible. The best way for my parents to get over a suitor was to make up another one! In fact, I wanted to make it five years instead, but I was worried that Mother would not believe it if it was so long, so I changed it to two years instead. I could not care less right now. If I could drag it out for another two years, then I can just make up another lie about us breaking up once the time comes, then I will spend another two years healing my poor broken heart, all by myself. That way, I can stop my parents from trying to get me married off every single day for at least four years. Wow... I should be an author at this rate. To think I could think up with such amazing ideas.
