Take Things Slowly

(Kyle) I watched her until she disappeared before I turned to Mikael, with a low growl, and he bowed his head in submission. “You know better than to use your wolf strength against a human,” I roared. The humans that were here already had mates. “I’m sorry Alpha. It was an accident,” Mikael said, but I didn’t believe him and neither did my wolf. “You have bathroom duty for a month,” I growled. “Yes, alpha,” Mikael said. “Dismissed all of you,” I said and everyone left. ‘Asher, how is everything?’ I linked my Beta. ‘I’ve just been told she’s perfectly fine,’ Asher replies. ‘Really? But I know I heard something snap. I linked him. ‘I know I told the doctor, but they found nothing wrong with her’ he links me as I walk inside the clinic. “Mr. Kyle,” the doctor said. “Hello, Marie. How is Jousett doing?” I asked. “She’s… perfectly fine. Not a bruise or a scratch on her,” Doctor Marie said. I looked at Jousett who was looking at me. The bell rings signaling the end of school. “Am I free to go, sir?” Jousett asked before adding, “The doctor said I was fine.” “Okay, but at least let me give you a ride home. This way, I know you got back okay. I don’t want anything to happen to you on the way. You might not show symptoms now, but who knows what could happen?” I said. I just wanted to make sure that she was okay and also see where my mate was staying. “Are you sure? I don’t want to be a bother,” she says. “You’re not a bother. Come on,” I said, and grabbed her bag and walked her towards my car. “My car is the black challenger,” I said. “Nice, car, Mr. Kyle. It’s a demon, right?” she asked. “Yeah, you know cars?” I asked. “Me? Not at all. I just know a nice, tough car when I see one,” she said, and I smiled. “So tell me about you, Jousett,” I said, wanting to know more about her. “I’m eighteen, I used to play lacrosse at my old school. I’m also adopted and an only child. Even though I’m adopted, I love my parents very much,” she said, and I nodded. ‘So ate is adopted. Her adopted parents must be very special to her,’ my wolf said, and I nodded in agreement. “The house on the corner by the woods,” she gestured. It was a nice cozy house and I could smell the fresh apple pie. “Would you like to come in? Maybe something to drink?” my beautiful mate asked me, the tips of her ears turning slightly red. “Sure,” I smiled and parked before following her inside. “Jousett, is that you?” A woman asked. “Yes, mom, it’s me. Mr. Kyle brought me home,” my mate said. “Did you get in trouble?” the woman asked, but she teased. “No, mom,” my mate chuckled and shook her head and added, “We were playing lacrosse at school and I got hit. Mr. Kyle just wanted to make sure I was okay. I invited him in for something to drink.” We walked into the kitchen and saw an older woman drying her hands. “Oh, hello Mr. Kyle. My name is Anna. Thank you for bringing my daughter home. I just made an apple pie. Would you like a piece?” Anna asked. “I don’t want to be a bother,” I said. “Oh, nonsense, have a seat,” Anna said and my mate chuckled. “Mr. Kyle, would you like coffee, tea, soda, juice, water, or milk?” my mate asked. “I’ll have a coffee,” I said. “Sugar? Cream or milk?” she asked. “Cream, two sugars,” I said, and she began to make it. I watched her move around. ‘I can already imagine her at our home’ my wolf said. “Here you go, Hun. I hope you like it,” Anna placed a plate with a large piece of warm apple pie. “Thank you, it smells amazing,” I said and took a bite as my mate placed the coffee in front of me. “Mm, this is amazing,” I said to Anna, then looked at my mate, “Thank you.” My beautiful mate smiled at me. “Anna, I hear a slight accent. Where are you from?” I asked. “Oh, my husband and I are from Puerto Rico. We came here when I was 23 and my husband was 25,” Anna said, and I nodded. “Are you guys the only ones here from Puerto Rico?” I asked. “Oh no, we have plenty of family around,” Anna said as my mate took a bite of her apple pie. “What about you, Kyle? Do you have other family here?” Anna asked. “I have a lot of friends, and they are like my family, so you can say, yes,” I replied. My pack is my family, but they are human. I can’t tell them that. Anna nods and smiles. “So, you’re a teacher?” Anna asks. “I’m just substituting for the teacher. His wife went into labor and, since I know about physical education, I was asked to substitute,” I said, and she nodded in understanding. “That’s very nice of you to help the students and the teacher,” Anna smiled and I returned her smile. My mate took out some books and her notebook and I knew she was doing homework. She put her hair up in a messy bun. “Eat first, Corazón,” Anna told my mate, who blushed. She looked so cute when she blushed. “What’s the homework?” I asked my mate. “Trigonometry,” my mate replied. The wind blew outside, making the leaves move and the sun shine through, shining perfectly in her eyes and making her eyes look other worldly also making my breath hitched. I have never seen eyes like hers before, but they are unique and perfect just like her. I cleared my throat and blinked a couple of times. “Trigonometry, that’s hard,” I said. “I’ve always been good at school and I like math,” she said, and I nodded as I finished my apple pie. “Would you like some more?” Anna asked. “No, thank you. This was amazing. It hit the right spot,” I said. “Would you like to stay for dinner?” my mate asked and added, “My dad should be here soon.” “I would love to, but I have some work to do, but maybe another time if that’s okay,” I said, and for a second I saw her frown before she masked it. ‘The mate bond is already working on her,’ my wolf said in my head, and I knew he was right. “No problem,” she smiled. I smiled back at her and stood up. “Thank you again for the apple pie, Anna. It was a pleasure knowing you,” I said. “The pleasure is all mine, and thank you for bringing Jousett home,” Anna said. “It’s my pleasure. I’ll see you tomorrow at school,” I said. “Of course. I’ll walk you out,” my mate said, and stood up to walk me to my car. “If you feel any pain or anything weird or wrong, go to the hospital, please,” I told my mate. “Okay, if I feel anything wrong, I’ll go to the hospital, but please don’t worry. I’m perfectly fine,” she tried to assure me, but the sound I heard was clear of something breaking. “Okay, have a good rest of your day,” I told her. “You too, Mr. Kyle. Drive safe,” she smiled and gave me a cute wave before going back inside. My wolf whimpered, not wanting to leave our mate here. ‘I know buddy, I know, but we’ll see her tomorrow’ I assured him. I turned my car on and began to drive, but everything in me was telling me to go get my mate and take her home with me, but I couldn’t. She’s human. I need to take things slowly with her and think of how I’m going to explain to what I am. * * *
