Everyone but Him
Once upon a time, a man and lady became very well acquainted. Mere months passed before they went on their first date. Soon after, they went on a third, a fourth... they became endless; somewhere between at least 30 and 50 cautious, yet extravagant dates the two became official. The man"s pals were envious of his flawless trophy; the lady"s friends fawned over her prince charming"s charisma. The relationship held strong for over five years, and they were, supposedly, unstoppable.
That"s when time became a drag; the two lovebirds had learned nearly everything there was to know about each other. Their families revealed photos of embarrassing and cute instances in their lives. Sleeping together and spending long nights under the stars in deep conversation only exposed their true personalities more and more. That"s when the man became bored. He went on many more outings with his friends, leaving his trophy to become lightly dusted with worry and stress. The only option she had was to try and dismiss the nagging suspicions by hanging out with her circle of friends; they were always there for her when he wasn"t.
It was as though he was never there to begin with; however, he was. Her memory was filled to the brim and even flooded with memories of just the two of them. Little did she know, his was the same way. But that was the problem - he was a man of adventure, and he had uncovered every minuscule fact, miracle, and dark secret within her. That man was also a man of his word, and wouldn"t just leave her for a new journey, a new woman. He still loved her ... he simply wished something new would spring up.
Enough time had passed, now, that the lady"s prince charming unintentionally locked himself away in a distant land, buried and concealed behind multiple layers of tasks and less important thoughts. In this faraway place of his, he stared up at more than a hundred swaying piles of paperwork; all had facts of his prized possession scribbled across their crisp white surfaces. He became an analytical man, having lost his blazing desire to explore. Her face was plastered on the fronts of millions of sheets; she had never looked so beautiful with each new memory he found in these piles.
Prince charming was so lost in his head that he didn"t even listen when brand new things were happening with his beautiful princess. She had gotten a new job, rescued multiple friends from accidents and depression, and so much more. As much as the lady wanted to tell her boyfriend all these new things, he sat idly by, looking too hard in his own thoughts for any trace of something new to notice that it was all ready to be spread out before him. And he had no clue that the more time he wasted delving deep into memories he had already contained and reviewed at least a hundred times, the more distant his trophy became.
