Prologue: The unseen miracle
Prologue: The Unseen Miracle
Jack Frank stood under the dim glow of a flickering streetlamp, his breath clouding in the cold December air. Another long day guarding cars at the lot had ended, leaving him with a pocketful of small tips and a heart heavier than he cared to admit. It wasn’t much, but it was honest work—enough to scrape by.
As he leaned against the metal railing near his station, Jack's gaze drifted to the night sky. He often found solace in its vastness, the twinkling stars a reminder of a world far bigger than his little corner of hardship. Tonight, though, his thoughts were far closer to home. They were with Sky Johnson.
She had been visiting the lot for almost a year now, parking her little blue car in the same spot every day. Sky was radiant—her laughter soft and melodic, her presence warm enough to brighten even the darkest days. But she was also impossibly out of his league. Jack, with his secondhand clothes and calloused hands, couldn’t imagine someone like Sky seeing him as anything more than the polite car guard who greeted her every morning.
Yet he couldn’t stop himself from imagining.
“Hey, Jack,” she had said earlier that day, handing him a steaming cup of coffee. “Merry Christmas, in case I don’t see you tomorrow.”
Her smile lingered in his mind now, as he stared up at the stars. He wanted to say something—anything. But what could he offer her, really? His insecurities bound his tongue, leaving his feelings buried where they couldn’t be rejected.
Jack sighed, shaking his head at his own foolishness. “Some things are just not meant to be,” he muttered, pulling his thin jacket tighter against the chill.
As he began his walk home, his phone buzzed in his pocket. Jack frowned. Who would message him at this hour? He flipped it open and squinted at the screen.
“Congratulations, Jack Frank! You’ve been selected for an all-expenses-paid holiday experience. Pack your bags and prepare for the adventure of a lifetime. More details to follow.”
Jack blinked at the words, his mind refusing to process them. A prank? A scam? It had to be. People like him didn’t win things like this.
But as he walked, his thoughts turned again to Sky. A holiday… maybe it could be a fresh start. A chance to step away from his everyday struggles and maybe—just maybe—find the courage to become the man she deserved.
Little did he know, this holiday would change more than his life. It would change the world.
