The KVS MAT school used to celebrate many festivals in those days, like, science feast, felicitation ceremony for prefects, wheel's day, sports day, teacher's day, children's day, annual day, and even more. Among them, sports day and annual day celebrations were exceptional cases.      Annual day celebrations used to have dramas and dances added with more and more colors and essential flavor that make the function look so grand and neat. Many students used to long for at least playing a cameo role and being a part of that function, in one or the other way. The school had many multi-talented teachers like Mrs. Anathi, Mr. Vijaya Kumar, etc. Out of the sincere efforts, put by them, and several other staff altogether, the whole event massively hit the crowd with a huge response.     Kani had his first stage performance during the annual day function when he was studying UKG. The first song that he danced was 'Ande Nootrande', from the film called, 'Mugavari'. He then played a cameo role in a Tamil drama when he was studying at Class V. Kani even danced in lady getups in many other annual day functions.      When Kani was studying the tenth standard, the annual day function was about to come. Many drama practices and dance practices were going on here and there. Kani didn't wish to take part in any of the events at that time. As the practice was going on, one day, Kani happened to see some students singing a Tamil song in the wrong way. Kani went near to them and corrected them in a way that how it should be. But still, the students couldn't get that. So, his chemistry teacher, Mrs. Radhika asked Kani to do that portion in the play.      Kani got surprised initially he ignored to sing because Kani knew that he couldn't pronounce the letter 'R' well right from his childhood times. The Radhika teacher read what was running in Kani's mind at that moment, and she said him not to worry about that he couldn't pronounce that word for any reason. And she quoted some other student examples in their school like his senior brother in the school named Manoj, who also had the same problem and he was a singer in the school's Mat Music team. Kani couldn't find any more reasons to deny that offer. And he thought right or wrong, he should prove himself in the stage at least for the belief that the teacher had on his potential.      Kani then smiled at the teacher and he accepted what the teacher said him to do. The script and screenplay works were carried out by the Tamil teacher, Mrs. Anathi and her lines in the script were like a gem. They were pleasant at the same time meaningful. On the event day, Kani was standing in the middle of the stage and he was the only one who was displayed to everyone sitting in front of the stage before him.      The big screens slowly started to open as Kani started to sing the opening song. His performance was not so good but he felt that was enough for the day when he got appreciation from his beloved teacher Mrs. Radhika, after the end of the show. The background music score was extraordinary and at the same time astonishing for Kani because until then they haven't done any rehearsal with music included. But on the event day, by simply listening to the song sequences, the music sir managed to deliver a great piece of music for the boys which were just amazing as well as outstanding! Kani could never forget that annual day incident in his life.      As an audience, Kani used to enjoy the performances of the students who were performing at the stage. There was a boy named, Shabareesh, who was well-known for his acting skills in dramas. He was a great performer of the stage and he just used to bring life to whatever character roles that were assigned to him that day. The twelfth standard student's dance was one of the most awaited moments during annual days. The twelfth students used to dance so gracefully and so nicely.      There was a senior student named, Shyam Gopal Swamy, at that time. He was a brilliant dancer in the school. During, one of the annual days, he danced for Michel Jackson's 'Dangerous song' so wonderfully. Even after, the other students finished off their dance, he did a 5-minute solo dance performance, which was quite remarkable and mind-blowing! The moment he finished off his dance, everyone gave a standing ovation to him and chants were saying, "Once more! Once more!". Such a spectacular dancer he was!      Those times the 'Madaithirandhu' song was very famous and it was frequently chosen and danced by the Class XII students during the annual day celebrations.      The sports day was also equally good at those times. Mostly, the Sports day and Annual day fall on Sunday so that the parents could come to the school in greater numbers for witnessing the events. Also, the students were not allowed to leave school before the celebration ends. They can go only if their parents ought to go. Also, the very next day, after that function gets over will be a holiday. This was liked by many. The food that they used to provide during the lunchtime would be damn hot and tasty.      But sometimes when these events keep on going, on one side, Kani and his friends used to go out and play cricket on the other side, when no one was watching them. They play and enjoy the whole day until and unless they get caught from the staff members.      Another occasion, that was conducted by the school every year, was the Science feast. Here, the students come up with innovative ideas and develop their presentation skills by themselves as they do interact with the people who come and visit the exhibition. The more the students speak and interact with the visitors, the more they get familiarized with the concepts so that when the judges visit them, they do their presentations in an extraordinary way.      There were two other functions which were still nostalgic than the above all. One was Teacher's day and the other one was Children's day. During Teacher's day, the students used to pay tribute to the teachers and during Children's day, the teachers used to pay tribute to the children. The most memorable Children's day celebration was the one during which the school principal Mr. Aadhi Narayanan sang a famous divine Tamil song, 'Mutthaitaru Pathithirunagai' on the stage. The song was a tongue twister and it needed careful pronunciations to sing but he spectacularly presented that song, in front of everyone and got great claps for his song. The rain dance performance by Mr. Sirajuddin, the school's French teacher was another special moment that happened during those times. The teacher's dance was so cool to watch, especially the artificial rain setting arrangements were very much delighted to watch. He danced for a famous Tamil song, 'Mazhai thuli Mazhai thuli Mannin sangamam'. There was another teacher named Mr. Lincoln, who danced for the Chandramuki movie song, 'Ra-Ra', which was also outstanding to mention. He put a lady getup for the song and danced it with a lot of enthusiasm and grace on his face.      After the celebrations were over, all the teachers will be felicitated with a memento for their noble teaching service at the school. The students used to give different kinds of sounds to express the liking they have towards a particular teacher, as a teacher goes to the stage and gets the memento from the dignitaries. When they don't like that particular teacher, they used to give hissing sound! And if they liked that teacher more, they would shout, 'Hey! Hey! Hey!' in chorus voice. Those were nostalgic and sweet kind of memories of those golden times! The bus day celebrations were also notable in that period. The bus gets decorated on that particular day with balloons and color papers. The scout claps by Karam Veer Scouts during Scouts day were also had a big-name in those days. Likewise, the school had many celebrations keep on preceding one after the other, bringing more and more cheerfulness and joyous moments. Hence the school was got its name, 'KVS MAT-The happening place'.
