Baucis and Philemon An elderly Phrygian couple who gave hospitality to Hermes (Mercury) and Zeus (Jupiter). The fundamental textual supply for this delusion is Ovid’s Metamorphoses(eight.616–724). The tale of Baucis and Philemon is informed by means of Lelex at a dinner party held by using the river god Achelous in honor of Theseus. The tales told via the banquet guests subject Zeus’s capability to metamorphose and dispense justice to pious mortals. Pirithous objected to Achelous’s story, which, he felt, attributed an excessive amount of electricity to the gods. Lelex answered the grievance with the story of Baucis and Philemon.
