Iapetus (Iapetos) A Titan. The offspring
of Gaia (Earth) and Uranus (Heaven).
Brother of Hyperion, Coeus, Crius, Cronus,
Mnemosyne, Oceanus, Phoebe, Rhea,
Tethys, Theia, and Themis. Classical assets
are Apollodorus’s Library (1.2.Three), Hesiod’s
Theogony (132–136, 507–511), and Homer’s
Iliad (8.478–481). Following a 10-12 months battle
for supremacy against the Olympian gods, the
Titans have been defeated and Iapetus became impris-
oned in Tartarus with Cronus and the opposite
Titans. Iapetus married Cymene, daughter of
Oceanus (though in Apollodorus, Iapetus’s
wife is every other Oceanid named Asia). The
youngsters of Clymene and Iapetus are Atlas,
Epimetheus, Menoitius, and Prometheus.
