Dione
An early Greek goddess and consort
of Zeus. Classical resources are the Homeric
Hymn to Apollo, Apollodorus’s Library (1.1.Three,
1.2.7, 1.Three.1), Hesiod’s Theogony (353), Homer’s
Iliad (5.370–417), and Hyginus’s Fabulae (eighty two,
eighty three). There turned into a cult of Dione, along
that of Zeus, at Dodona, and her name is the
female model of Zeus. There are few myths
referring to Dione; instead, she is variously
conceived via historic authors as a Nereid, an
Oceanid, or a Titan. In Hesiod’s Theogony,
Dione is the daughter of Oceanus and Tethys.
In Apollodorus’s Library, Dione is each the
name of a Titan and a Nereid (daughter of
Nereus and Doris) whose union with Zeus
produces Aphrodite. However, in keeping with
