Amazon, is a devotee of the goddess Artemisbut disdains love and the goddess Aphrodite.
Aphrodite, at the hole of the play, announc-
es her aim to punish Hippolytus through mak-
ing Phaedra, wife of Theseus and stepmother
to Hippolytus, fall in love with him. Phaedra’s
unchaste desire for her stepson turned into probable
