Two Lovers, Two Chances                                    294 words. As soon as Lady Teresa and I liked each other, I knew it wouldn’t be a smooth road. We’ve been secretly dating for two years now, and I knew I had to cut our relationship before it got deeper.      “Why did you call me out in this cold?” Teresa shivered.      “I had to tell you something,” I mumbled. “We can’t date anymore.”      “What?” she whispered.     “I work as a slave at your household right now. And you’re a respected lady of this land. It’s hard each day to live for me, working, and not being respected. How can a slave live in a world that’s so harsh?”      Tears filled her eyes. “Fine. I’ll tell my father to cut you from your job. But promise me, if we meet another two times, you’ll have to date me again.”      I nodded. “But please miss, don’t keep your hopes up.” As soon as I reached home, I booked any available ticket, to a plane ride tomorrow. I packed my belongings and got ready to leave this country.     “Boarding pass, sir.” I handed the ticketing agent my pass. “Thank you, and that’s the first time.”      “Pardon?”      The agents took off her hat and showed her face. It was Lady Teresa. “One more time left.” She put her hat back on and allowed me to pass through. I walked forward, reminding myself she had to work, and I can’t see her now.      I boarded the airplane, alone in my section. Someone slid into the seat next to me. “And that’s the second time.” the passenger said. She took off her hat and revealed her face. “I hope you keep your promise, Eugene.  Because you’re not a slave anymore in Canada. And I’m not a lady either in that land.”
