Two Chances

As soon as Lady Teresa and I liked each other, I knew it wouldn’t be a smooth road. We’ve been secretly dating for two years now, and I knew I had to cut our relationship before it got deeper.      “Why did you call me out in this cold?” Teresa shivered.      “I had to tell you something,” I mumbled. “We can’t date anymore.”      “What?” she whispered.     “I work as a slave at your household right now. And you’re a respected lady of this land. It’s hard each day to live for me, working, and not being respected. How can a slave live in a world that’s so harsh?”      Tears filled her eyes. “Fine. I’ll tell my father to cut you from your job. But promise me, if we meet another two times, you’ll have to date me again.”      I nodded. “But please miss, don’t keep your hopes up.”
