Prologue:

The thumping sound of my running footsteps echoes through the woods.

My ragged breathing; inhale, exhale, coming in and out just as fast as my heart beating against my chest,

The wind howling in my ears to run faster and faster with each step I make, crinkling the dead leaves underneath the weight of my feet.

“Why?! Why did she do this?”

I silently ask, tears staining my delicate porcelain skin.

“Did she not love him at all?”

My chest, burning with every ragged breath.

“And what about me? What have I done to anger her to the point of seeking my death?”

Risking looking back over my shoulder, I fail to see the lifted tree root, making me tumble forward…

Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep!

Opening my eyes as I jump awake, I place one arm across my forehead, and the other on my chest.

What a weird nightmare…

My heart pounds heavily against my ribs, along with my heavy breathing.

“Are you alright, Snow?” A croaking, sleepy voice calls out.

“I’m fine, Gregory. Go back to sleep.” I say, slowly sitting up, letting the red satin sheet fall on my naked body.

“So should you,” Bash says, groaning, rolling himself over to the side, snaking his arm around my waist, trying to pull me back down on the bed.

A small smile stretches on my lips.

Bending down, I gently kiss the tip of his nose, making him tighten his hold.

Caressing his hair, my forehead against his, I whisper; “I have to go to the bathroom. I’ll come back after.”

“Don’t make us wait too long,” croaks Sloan, who’s barely awake to utter those words.

‘He’s such a sleepy head’ I thought to myself, shaking my head.

I make my way into the adjoining bathroom. Opening the water, I splash a little on my face. Dry patting myself, I look up in the mirror.

‘I wish those weird nightmares would stop’

It’s been months since my father passed away. And it’s around that time my nightmares started.

My dear old stepmother, Ingrid, is the only person I suspect, but I have no proof. Yet.

The fact that she agreed for me to have a bodyguard to “protect me” took out the suspicion the police had of her.

But I supposed she didn't realize that Princeton would have seven of his best bodyguards watching over me.

I didn't want to agree at first but changed my mind quickly. Especially after they saved me without me knowing they were already looking out for me.

It all started when I had this huge fight with Ingrid…

Chapter 1
“You’re a liar!!! There is no way it was just an accident! My father was a healthy and careful man!” “You're still under duress from his sudden passing. Maybe you should take some time away for a little while, Snow.” Ingrid says, her cunning smile not fooling me. “You just want me away to get your dirty hands on my father’s company! Let me clue you in, it will never happen! I will never let you have full control! You vile evil witch!” I spit! “My dear, dear Snow, Do you really think the board will let a young and naive little thing like yourself take over this huge company? And what about all the investors from the board? Humm?! Do you really think they’ll agree to you taking over without even an ounce of knowledge in this business?” “I suppose you were expecting your sweet innocent looks to get you by?” She sneers, taking a stand of my long raven, silky hair through her ugly crooked fingers. “Don’t touch me! I know you’ve got something to do with his death! I will find a way to prove it. And no matter what knowledge I don’t have at the moment to take care of the company, I can learn!” I say, slapping away her hand and walking away furiously, slamming the door on my way out. Stopping for a second holding onto the door knob of my father's office, which she claimed with her dirty hands barely a day after his death, I make my way to the elevator, pushing the down button furiously. Stepping in, I press the main floor's button and lean my back against the back wall, pressing my head on the closest wall. I let out a deep, sorrowful sigh. How am I even going to prove her guilt? Can I even take care of my father’s company? Are the board member even willing to give me a chance to learn the proper step to take care of the company? The ding of the opening door brings me back to the present. As I’m about to step out of the elevator, I come face to face with Princeton. “Oh, well hello there Snow. How are you holding up?” He asks, looking at me with tenderness. Princeton Evans, my childhood best friend, and partner to my father's company. At a young 27 years old, he’s become a pillar in the business community, earning the respect of many and all businessman. Graduating from school 2 years early, gave him an edge and an advance in his business studies. At only 27, he already had the highest degree attainable in his field. To say he is a genius, would be an understatement, and I am proud of the man he has become. Our parents were best friends growing up. After I was born, or so I’ve heard from many stories growing up, he had become a little protector to me. I only recently turned 19 and he has looked out for me even throughout his studies and growing career. Our 8 years difference isn’t as noticeable now. It's funny to think how my mother always thought we would end up together. She would be in for a world of surprise when he came out of the closet a few years ago. He and his partner are the cutest couple ever and I love them both dearly. “Hi, Princeton. I’m doing as well as anyone would be in my situation.” I say with a weak smile. Taking my hand softly, he pulls me in for a tight hug. “I know it’s hard. I can only imagine how you are feeling. Losing your mother so many years ago and now losing your father. It’s got to be hard. But know that I and my family will always be there for you.” He says, making me smile. “Lord knows my mother will hunt you down if you don’t keep in touch!” He says, making my heart feel lighter for a moment. He’s right. The Evans are my second family, and I do know I can count on them no matter what. “How about you come home for dinner tonight? Lance was planning on making some Alfredo pasta with a good bottle of wine.” He says, pulling me at arm's length to have a better look at me. “Are you sure I wouldn't be imposing?” I ask, already salivating at the thought of my favorite pasta. “Of course not! Lancer has been asking to have you over for a couple of days. But he wouldn’t ask himself. He knows you’re going through a rough time and didn’t want to make you feel obligated to come over. But I’m different. I’ll make you come over. And no-nonsense about being a burden. You could never be!” He says, making my smile widen. He always knows the right thing to say to make me feel welcome. Even on the days I know I interrupted their sexy alone time. If I needed them, they always opened their door and welcome me wholeheartedly. His expression suddenly hardens slightly. “And there’s something I want to talk to you about, but too many listening ears around here.” “Is everything alright?” I ask, furrowing my brows with worry. “I’m not a hundred percent sure, but anyway. We'll talk about it over dinner.” He says, his usual smile returning. “Okay…” I reply, not fully convinced if I should be a little worried or a lot. “Are you sure? We could get a cup of coffee or something if you have the time.” I say, trying to get him to talk now. I’ll be a nervous wreck all day if he doesn’t. “Unfortunately, I don’t. I have a few meetings throughout the afternoon. Don’t worry too much. We’ll talk tonight.” He says, giving my cheek a chaste kiss. Stepping aside and letting him get in the elevator, I wave goodbye before the door closes. What could he possibly need to talk to me about that he can’t do it here?
