Luna lost.
" We have a code blue!" Someone shouted.
The emergency room in a state of chaos as casualties from a car accident begin to flood in. Doctors and nurses rush towards the patient being wheeled in on a stretcher. The woman couldn't be more than twenty. She has several lacerations to her face and body. The paramedic is currently assisting her breathing. She is moved to a room and transferred her to a machines to force air into her lungs. Two days, she fought for life. Her existence hanging on by a thread as her organs began to shut down. She has no brain activity. This Jane Doe had no source of identification.
With no family to make the decision, a group of doctors called an emergency meeting.
"Gentleman! This woman is not going to recover. This much we can all agree on. But let's not have her death be in vain. Her heart is still strong. This could be our only chance to save that little girl's life..."
"Alpha Adrian, we have information on Anna's whereabouts."
The Alpha turns from the window towards his beta's voice. "I'm sorry Alpha. There was an accident...A car wreck about four hours from here. Anna was taken to a human hospital. I am told her condition is critical".
He and his wolf and been frantic since the morning his future Luna went missing. It had been three days since she ran away from her home and away from him. Anna was his fated mate. Hand picked by the Moon Goddess herself to rule together.
There was a gap between the human and supernatural world. That was the problem. Anna denied their bond. She embraced her human side and disregarded her animal instincts. She wanted to choose her own fate. It was understandable. But as an Alpha, he didn't have that luxury.
Three hours later, Aiden's driver is pulling into the hospital parking lot. He jumps from the vehicle before it is fully stopped and races towards the entrance...
Riley
It had been years since the last time I was in this part of the country. Feeling a sense of euphoria with the Blue Ridge Mountains coming into view.
The last time I was here was the day I left the hospital. I was what they called a medical miracle. After spending my childhood in and out of hospitals, one day they said it wasn't safe to leave. I spent two straight years in that little prison. At ten years old, I was woken up by a nurse n the middle of the night.
I had a donor.
A little morbid to consider the fact that I spent the past two years waiting on someone else to die for me to have a chance to live.
Much to the doctors' confusion, I fully recovered from the surgery by the end third day and was discharged four days post-op. Come to think of it. I was always a super fast healer.
I found out the day I was going home that my parents had given up custody of me to the state of North Carolina. As a foster kid, I was bounced around from place to place. Eventually ending up in Wyoming.
I was never alone though. When I was under anesthesia, I dreamt of a grey wolf with blue eyes entering my body. It was confusing at the time. It still is.
I should be committed.
Lily, she called herself, would often visit me in my dreams. She spoke more telepathically than actual physical words.
I always considered her like an extension of myself. Maybe like an imaginary friend. She has become a more prominent part of my thought process over the last year.
Or maybe it's a sign of schizophrenia.
She became restless lately. Like she was pushing me towards something. That's why I'm here. A few days ago I got in my car and started driving back to the place I had hoped to never see again. Sort of a personal mission to prove to myself that I wasn't bat s**t crazy.
I mean with my past, no one would think twice. The weird girl without a family talks to herself. It makes total sense. Nobody wanted me, so why not have an imaginary wolf that says crazy s**t and tells me to do even crazier s**t. Like driving across the country on a whim. No biggie. Just me and my wolf buddy on a road trip.
Lily began speaking in riddles. I wrote most of them down and tried to remember...
'find the source of your heart'
'Bryson is key'
'the pendant holds answers'
'Blue Ridge is home'
'find peace in your mate'
That's why I'm currently parked outside of the hospital that I stayed in all those years ago. I have had the option to find out the name of the person who saved me all those years ago. I just never saw the need. I never experienced that nagging feeling to know who had died and got chopped open and gutted to save me. It just did not seem like a piece of information I needed.
Until now...
Find the source of your heart
After registering and being taken back to medical records, I was handed a heavy yellow envelope containing a single slip of paper. That read as follows:
Donor Source: Unknown... Revision...Anna Vincent
Age: Approximately 18 years
Cause of Death: Brain trauma due to automobile accident.
Address: Bryson, North Carolina.
Carefully, I return the paper to it's source. There's something else in the envelope obstructing my progress.
Reaching down, I pull out a thick gold chain attached to a large crescent moon pendant.
The pendant holds answers
I was not one for riddles. I could barely cipher a poem. Why the hell couldn't you jus say what you mean, Lily?
It looked like it belonged to a man. Turning it over in my palm I noticed the Inscription Blue Ridge. And the initials AD on the opposite side. Weird.
It's pretty though. Not that I was big on jewelry. But for some reason, I feel like it's important.
I slip the chain around my neck and tuck the pendant into my shirt to hang between my breasts.
As Lily's words echoed like a chant in my head, I started the car and set my GPS towards my next destination and pull out of the parking lot.
Bryson is key
