Adrian
I left my mate to my sister, Angel. I figured a female friend might make Riley's transition a little easier. Angel and Riley were close in age. Riley was about nineteen and my sister was almost eighteen. She was a good kid. She always followed the rules. But, was a smartass while she did it. I have heard some of the s**t talking she does when she thinks I am not around. My sweet little sister had a potty mouth when I had my back turned.
I was hoping that Angel would be able to explain the werewolf thing a little better than I could.
This could be bad. After trying to explain it all to her, she laughed in my face and kicked me out of my own bedroom last night. After she demanded I bring her suitcases up to her room.
Unfortunately, there are more pressing matters. There has been talk of an uprising. The rogues around our borders have been multiplying. Word has spread that they are turning humans to increase their numbers. Their leader, lovingly referred to as Demon, has called for all wolves to stand against the Counsel of Elders. His latest attempt at gaining power. Rogues are classified as the outcasts of our society. The ones who, more often than not, committed a crime within their own pack and faced banishment. This meant excommunication of friends and family as well. The laws set by the Elders were, for the most part, reasonable. Laws are put into place to govern any society. Otherwise there was chaos.
I just happen to be the top advisor and head of military training for the Elders and for all the packs on the east coast. Which means I was a target. Worse... Riley was. If they find out she's here. Demon wasn't beyond kidnapping or murdering to get what he wants. Without her bearing my mark. She was in serious danger. She needed that protection. The only problem was convincing her of that.
Riley
Angel had come to my room after I ate dinner. She brought nail polish and makeup. She dropped them on the bed as she declared it was girls night. It wasn't something I was used to. I didn't really have friends to do this kind of stuff with. I had a sister. But she refused to speak to me. Even after I tried to reconnect with her as an adult. Apparently I ruined her life. Whatever that meant.
She was actually really nice. Her nonjudgmental demeanor and bubbly personality was infections. I could definitely get used to having her around.
She'd just finished giving me a pedicure while telling me the story of Aiden's deceased mate. The whole wolf shifter explanation seemed a little far fetched. About as far fetched as having a wolf living inside my head. So I went with it.
"She hated our kind. She told Aiden she wanted to kill her wolf and go live in the human world. He thought it would be best for her to move in here and all of us keep an eye on her. But she got out. Stole a car and wrecked it trying to escape. You pretty much know the rest."
"I really don't."
She glances up from my half polished toe. "The aftermath is something you will have to hear from him. It's not my story to tell."
" So a fated mate is like a soul mate?"
"Exactly. It's not uncommon to reject a mate if you're already in love or just don't suit each other. "
So that means there's a way out of this mess?
"So I can reject him and he'll let me go?"
Angel winced. "It's a little more complicated than that for an Alpha. For Aiden to deny his mate would be to deny his fate and the Moon Goddess herself. It would literally kill him. Maybe you too."
Wow!
"So, you're saying, there's no way out of this alive?"
" Pretty much... All done. Let's watch a movie."
"Wait."
I still have a ton of questions.
"One more question."
"Shoot."
"Is Ana's wolf...My wolf?"
She smiles. "Bingo!"
I finally stop the interrogation and watch the movie. It's late. Angel is starting to doze off next to me. I wake her up so she can go back to her own room. I fall back on the bed and burrow under the blankets. I had gotten alot of questions answered tonight. That only lead to more questions.
I woke up sweating. I had a dirty dream about my captor that night. But reality set in. Leaving me alone and wanting. Where was Adrian anyway?
Three days!
It had been three days of being cooped up in this room. I had meals brought in like clockwork. I made one attempt to leave the confines of this room and found two guards posted outside the door. Angel came to visit a few times. But no Aiden. An odd sense of longing was beginning to consume me. Lily too.
Need mate.
'What am I supposed to do?'
It's not like I could just go to the guards and demand to see the man that was holding me hostage. Because, for some reason, I missed him. Could I?
This is nuts! None of this made any sense! I've read about Frankenstein syndrome. Where the captive develops a soft spot for their captor.
For some sick reason, Lily has been flashing images of a shirtless and very hot Adrian through my mind. I didn't get a good enough look at him apparently. I'm seeing him walking towards me in the yard. His mussels flex as he lifts me in his arms. The tattoo over his heart that matches the pendant that I still wore. The tribal designs that wrapped the right side of his body and shoulder disappearing beneath the waistband of his shorts. His golden eyes blooming with anger at his men. Then adoration at me. I had never seen anyone more sexy than that man.
Shit!
I head for the shower. I let the cold water penetrate my skin in an attempt to squelch my rising temperature. My body is starting to betray my judgement. I am losing control of everything.
Jeeze! I need to get laid. I'm not that girl that goes lusting after random guys. But him...
Now I'm horny and pissed.
'Mate, my ass! f**k him!'
He hasn't even come back.
Yes. f**k him.
Great!
The voices in my head are against me too.
