Time is ticking darling Vane muttered as he tightened his grip on Seraphina’s waist. Seraphina shoved him away with all her strength driving her knee upward. The force made him stagger back as he wheezed clutching himself.

You think you can fight me Seraphina he scoffed his face turning red with rage.

I will never belong to a monster like you she shouted.

Haha, you have no idea what it means to be my wife, you be the most respected woman in the city don't you want that, he Muttered stepping closing to Seraphina grabbing her arm and twisted it until she cried out in pain.

No I don't want anything to do with you I love my current life so let to go of that thought and release my father.

Your father is a traitor and he will suffer for it. If you do not agree to be my wife tonight your father will rot in the cell.

How can you do this to him Seraphina mumbled my father is a good man he never did anything bad to you neither to anybody.

I do not care Vane muttered grinning i only care about what I want and that's you, be my wife Seraphina.

I ran to Vane and start hitting his legs with my small fists, you... are a bad man she is not yours she is not yours I mumbled, let go of my sister.

Vane looked down at me and laughed. Get them out of my sight before I decide to make them both disappear.

No need we see ourselves out Seraphina buttered grabbing my arm as we stormed out of the room.

If you want your father to stay alive you know what must be done Vane muttered as we walked out.

Seraphina, where are we going I mumble tugging at her dress.

To meet someone who can help us she muttered we are going to rescue dad.

We walked for miles until we reached the military district arriving at the home of General Alaric.

I remembered how he used to take us horse riding when father was still free. Alaric opened the door looking around before letting us in.

General Alaric Seraphina muttered, please you have to help us.

Alaric sighed looking at us. I know what Vane has done to your father. He is a wicked man and the governor keeps indulging Vane bad behavior.

I need to see my father we asked several stations they all gave same answers he isn't here.

Don't worry Seraphina I know where your father is been held, follow me.

yeah we finally know where daddy is I mumbled excitedly hoping he would be back in the kitchen making our stews again

seraphine grabbed my hand as we walk through a dark tunnel reaching a cell, There he was laying on the floor.

Father I shouted as ranning to hug him.

Father looked up shocked, He was wearing torn clothes and blood was spilling from his head.

Lyra Seraphina what are you both doing here he muttered.

You have to leave before Vane finds out.

We are not going anywhere until we save you Seraphina mumbled.

Please you must go away father begged.

Daddy you promised to come back why aren't you coming with us I mumbled grabbing his hand as tears tears down my face.

Don't cry baby daddy is going to be okay.

Really let's go now daddy before any body gets here.

He turned his head away from us, I cannot go with you now he mumbled.

Vane men are coming now lets go fast general alaric muttered urging us out.

Daddy I love you so much Seraphina muttered crying we come back for you soon.

I love you girls too now run far away and forget about me father shouted.

Seraphina took my hand as we quickly rushed out through the tunnel.

Why didn't father just come with us I asked Alaric as we reached the Outside.

Alaric looked at me sadly. Lyra baby we cannot take your daddy along if Vane finds out he would hurt you both and your daddy wants both of you save.

How can we get daddy out then.

I will try to figure something out but you girls should go home now he muttered.

thanks for everything sir Seraphina mumbled grabbing my hands as we walked back toward our house.

We were not even halfway home when a figure stepped out from the shadows.

​It was Victor. He stood there looking down, avoiding Seraphina’s gaze entirely.

He was the one person we could trust because he had been engaged to my sister since we were five years old and he had promised to protect her always.

Seraphina rushed to him, her face lighting up with a flicker of hope. Victor, she cried, you are here. You have to help us. Vane has our father and we have no one else to turn to.

​I have something I need to tell you, Victor muttered.

what is it, Seraphina mumbled excitedly as she moved closer to hug Victor.

​He shoved his hands deep into his coat pockets taking a step back.

Seraphina, i cannot see you anymore. my father has forbidden it. He says your family is in a scandal with the governor's family.

He says if I am seen with you, Vane will destroy my family as well so I am breaking off our engagement.

​Seraphina stared at him as if she could not understand his words.

Why, she muttered, we have been engaged for ten years. We had planned our future together. Why are you doing this to me.

​It is not my fault, it is Vane, Victor replied.

​You are nothing but a coward, Victor, go away, Seraphina shouted, lunging at him as she began to beat her fists against his chest, tears streaming down her face, hitting him over and over, you are are a traitor Victor I loved you and this how you repaid me.
