After trudging across the field with his assistant, Francis Lees and his camera equipment slung over his shoulder, Nugent nodded to Ross and McLennan. In an unprecedented show of emotion, the rotund pathologist took hold of Ross's shoulders and drew him close, in a semblance of a man-hug and simply said, “Bad day, Andy.”
Ross actually found himself biting back a tear, so rare was it for Nugent to show such emotion, not to mention addressing him by his first name.
“Yes, it is, Doc.” was all he could say.
Francis Lees meanwhile shook McLennan's hand and expressed his own condolences.
