Ross suddenly shouted, “Where the hell is he?” Adamson had seemingly done a disappearing act. One second he was there, the next, he'd vanished from sight. “Has he fallen down?” Devenish shouted to the others. “Or is he trying to get away by keeping low?” Ross voiced the thought aloud. “If he's crouching down, it'll slow him down a lot,” Church called to him from about thirty yards away. Adamson wasn't so much crouching, as he was kneeling. Dropping to all fours, he was attempting to double back on his route into the field, crawling slowly through the plants that now provided him with cover, rendering him invisible to the police.
