“I'm sorry, but could you repeat that?” Church said to the receptionist, who'd identified herself as Petra on answering the phone at Able and Clark, Solicitors at Law.
“Mr Able is deceased,” Petra repeated her earlier statement, in reply to Church's original request to speak to Simon Able. “Can I ask who's speaking, please?”
“My name is Detective Sergeant Fenella Church, from the Merseyside Police, Special Murder Investigation Team. I was hoping Mr Able would be able to help us with our inquiries into a property purchase he handled on behalf of one of your clients.”
“Oh, I see. Perhaps you ought to speak to Mr Clark.”
