Chapter 4 The clay road materialized beneath Pembroke’s hooves and he bucked off the elf. The elf rolled, landing with a soft whump in a mossy meadow. Insects chirped beneath the fronds. Birds sang as they swooped to and fro through the air, ducking into the wild blueberry bushes lining a lush forest. The sun sat perched high in the cerulean sky, beaming warmth and light.
