Chapter 3.1

The day started rather early for me as I prepared breakfast for all of us and Corey sighed heavily as he ate his breakfast in silence. It was deadly silent on the dining table. No one uttered a single word. It was like I had killed someone or dishonored my family. No, his family to be exact. Corey gave me side eye as if I had stolen something precious of his. Everyone side-eyed me like I had grown rhino horns and a unicorn horn. It was unbearable, I couldn’t even eat half of my breakfast and had to leave on an empty stomach. While I made my bag Corey came to my room and crashed on my bed folding my clothes and helping with the packing, “This is not fair man, you said you would cook breakfast for what two weeks, a month? Damn, I forgot! But then it’s not really your fault. I mean you’ve always dreamed of living in the palace and you’ve always dreamed about taking care of babies. I just think you got lucky, like really lucky!” Corey sighed with his nonstop talk and I smiled at him, “What? Are you concerned for me? You think I won’t fit in? I know I’ll be fine but missing you will definitely kill me!” I said throwing my arms around him crushing him in a smothering hug as he shrieked but didn’t pull away for the first time as he was allergic to physical affection and patted my back, “There, there! You poor penguin! Make sure to eat and poop on time! Don’t forget yourself while looking after others, okay?”

“I won’t forget the basic things Corey. I’ll just f*****g miss you buddy, what do you suggest we do about that?” I asked pulling back from the hug and rubbed his back in a comforting manner, he cracked a smile, “Well, you could ask for a day off on the weekend and visit us, palace is not that far but you staying there for I don’t know how long is really far stretched. I’ll miss you too f*****g much mama bear!” He said thumping my back as I took the hits and pulled off from him laughing at his words and actions. He was my confidante and my best brother, what was I to do without him, how was I to survive alone in the palace? But I wasn’t going to be alone in the palace after all, and I came to know about it quite soon.
