The Page That Should Not Exist

257 Words
A hidden compartment in the archive contained a page that should not have existed. It said: IT DOES NOT RETURN. IT NEVER TRULY LEAVES. Ren read it twice. Airi understood. Lim had survived every attempt to destroy it because destruction was never the real solution. Akari arrived and immediately demanded that they leave. “You don't understand what you're opening.” “We understand enough,” Airi said. Akari looked at the page. Then her expression changed. “Kaede.” The page contained one final instruction: ASK KAEDE KUROGAWA. But Kaede was still missing. Outside the estate, a distant figure watched them. The Hunter. And this time, he was not alone. THE ONE WHO REMEMBERS The Hunter returned. Lim's influence grew stronger. Ren began losing larger pieces of his past. Airi's notebook became thicker. She recorded everything she could. The Hunter watched from a distance. “You cannot save someone by forcing them to remember.” Airi looked at him. “Then what can I do?” “Remind him who he chooses to be.” The Hunter revealed that Lim had been using memories as doors. Every forgotten moment made Ren easier to reach. Airi refused to leave him. That night, Ren forgot the name of his mother. Airi held the notebook open. “You don't have to remember everything tonight.” He looked at her. “Then what should I remember?” She answered: “That you're here.” The moon disappeared behind clouds. And Lim spoke through the darkness: “Not for long”
