Prologue
I packed my clothes and put them into a box. I paced around the room "I can't do this anymore" I said to myself. Danté was barely at home again, he was always working. He is currently on a business trip to God knows where, he doesn't even tell me where he is going anymore. I get he is trying to build an empire for his father's sake but what about me. I am his wife, I feel neglected. When I want to complain bout his behaviour he gets angry and we start fighting. I loved him but I won't let him treat me like I don't exist. He barely touches me again, the last time we had s*x was last week before he travelled. We've been married for two years and everything had been going smoothly until now. I met Danté in my third year in school and we became friends, we did everything together and along the line we fell in love. When we graduated from school at 21 and 24 respectively, he wanted us to get married immediately. The wedding was a small one with just his parents and siblings and our friends. I was an orphan and I didn't invite my aunt, who was the only relation I knew. I was so in love with Danté then and I am still in love with him now but I need to make something out of my life. I can't be a housewife forever. I'm sorry Danté. I put the ring he had given me beside the paper. I had one last look around the room we shared for two years. I was going to miss the room. I wheeled my box out of the room into the taxi waiting for me. I had already booked a flight to Italy, were my aunt stays. I don't have anywhere to run to but there. When I got to the airport, I waited a little bit until they announced boarding. I entered the flight and not long later the plane took off. Goodbye LA. I arrived in Italy in the afternoon, the place had changed a lot since the last time I had been here. It was the time my aunt lost her husband and I was just in college but thankfully I could still remember my aunt's house. I boarded a taxi that took me to my aunt's house. I knocked on her door "I'm coming" a voice said from inside. My aunt opened the door and she looked surprised, her mouth wide open that a fly could enter. She looked more matured than before, I guess after losing her husband and she has no children she would be this way. "Aunt Luciana" I said with tears in my eye. I hugged her and she hugged me too "My girl, how..... Why didn't you tell me you where coming?" "I had no where else to go to and I didn't have your number again" "Come in" she took my luggage from me and carried it inside "Sit down and tell me everything" I took a seat and she got me water to calm down. I drank the water and I had gotten myself "So, why did you leave LA?" "I left my marriage" "You're married? When did that happen?" "I'm sorry, I didn't tell you about it before. I loved him and I was in a hurry to be his wife" "Why did you leave the marriage?" "I got tired aunty. I feel like a loser, I don't even have a job, I'm just a housewife and I don't want to be one again" "Did you talk to your husband about how you feel?" "I told him I wanted to work but he never agreed to it. Anytime I try bringing it up he finds away to end the topic. We've been quarrelling a lot recently and I just got tired" "Did you love your husband?" "Yes, I did and I still do but I can't continue with the marriage. I didn't want to ask for a divorce upfront because I didn't want to hurt his feelings that's why I left as he went on a business trip. I want to start a new life" "Oh Alessia, marriage is not a bed of roses, it has its own up and down. I wish you informed me earlier before you got married. I guess it's late to put blames on anyone. I won't force you to go back to your husband and I don't support you leaving him either without giving him an explanation" "Au-nt ple-ase, I don't want to go back" I pleaded "I'm not forcing you to go back. You are welcome here after all there's nobody here with me and I'm lonely so your presence is highly welcome" "Thank you so much" I said "Go inside and freshen up then come and have lunch later" ‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡ It's been two weeks since I came here, I changed my number. I knew Danté would be worried about me, that's if he notices my absence. I pray he listens to me when we meet in the future. I helped my aunt in her bakery. She baked cupcakes and other snacks. She had a lot of customer so I assisted her with serving them. I still looked for a job while helping her, I needed to find a job soon. The bell rang indicating the entrance of a customer entering, the man was in a business suit and he was typing furiously on his phone. I walked to his table to ask him what he would like to order. "Good afternoon sir, what would you like to have?" he stopped typing and looked at me. The man looked like someone in his late sixties and he looked furious. "Can I get coffee?" "Yes sir" I quickly made him coffee and brought it to his table. He was just talking to somebody and I heard him say something like he needed a new secretary" "Here's your coffee sir" "Thank you" I turned my back to leave. "Ummm, excuse me young lady. Can I ask you something" "Go ahead sir" "Would you like a new job? You see I'm looking for an interior designer, the one I had just quit and now I'm getting older I need someone to assist me" "Why me sir?" "You are very young and you also look calm, when I saw you I just knew you would fit perfectly for the job" "Thank you sir, for your kind words. Let me think about it" "Here's my card in case you change your mind. Just give me a call" he brought a business card from his pocket and slipped it in my hands and he left. The card was neatly designed. I read the name on it Lucca Costa. I smiled at it, this is my ticket to a new life and new beginning, I would not let this opportunity slip from me and I'm going to do my best. I went to serve other customers and later that night I told my aunt what happened earlier in the day and what I planned on doing. She encouraged me to do what my heart wants and that she would always have my back.
