Chapter Nine

Stella’s POV

I missed him. More than I had expected was possible. How could I miss someone I barely knew? Someone I couldn’t even feel the bond with yet? Regardless, I did. A lot. And Belle did also. For the past two days at school, every time we look around our eyes hope to catch sight of him. Every time I see Wyatt and Levi I pray to see him even for a second. And every time I don’t my heart hurts a little, while Belle whines in my head.

At first, we had been texting and spoke on the phone with each other. But then Sunday rolled around, and his messages seemed to stop. I don’t know what I did wrong. I don’t know why he doesn’t want to talk to me. Maybe he changed his mind and doesn’t want me anymore. Maybe he wants someone else.

‘Mate loves us! He doesn’t want anyone but us!’  Belle growls in my mind.

‘Then why hasn’t he spoken to us? And since when do you refer to him as mate?’ I whimper back.

‘I don’t know Stellie. I really don’t. And because his wolf claimed us, we both know he was being honest. He’s our mate, we just don’t feel the sparks or smell his scent yet.’ She whines clearly hurting just as much as me.

I shake my head of all thoughts of Kai and get up to get ready for the day. I dress up in a one shoulder crop top, paired with frill trim white skirt. I leave my blond hair down in loose waves. My makeup is minimal, some mascara and light eyeshadow, with a bit of lip gloss. When I’m done and ready, I head downstairs to the kitchen. It’s early so I know my boys are still asleep, which means I can set up my surprise for them. See, it’s finally Wednesday which means it’s our 18th birthday.

I set to work on making breakfast for my brothers and parents. I make three different kinds of pancakes; blueberry, chocolate chip, and banana. Then I make scrambled eggs for Bash, Theo and Pa, sunny side up for Leo, Papa, and I, then eggs benedict for Teo, momma and dad. I also made some home fries, bacons and sausage. After I set the table with all the food on it I go to hang up the banner I made for today. It’s a birthday sign that reads: “FINALLY 18 ALPHA’S.” I hang it on the wall behind the table and I place all their gifts under the banner.

I look at my handy work and smile excitedly. Then I let out a loud scream. I knew that would get everyone’s attention the fastest. And I was right. Within seconds hurried footsteps could be heard coming down the stairs. I stood next to the sign with a bright smile and waited for everyone. Frantic faces came into view a few seconds later. Papa, dad and Pa were looking around the room assessing for any dangers, while momma strolled slowly in behind them smiling. My brothers rushed past her, but as soon as they spotted me they stopped in their steps immediately.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAYYY!!!”  I shouted excitedly running to them, jumping into all of their arms at once. Of course, they caught me and hugged me back just as tightly. They all laughed at my antics.

“Happy birthday angel.” Leo and Bash said kissing my forehead.

“Happy birthday Princess.” Theo and Teo said kissing my cheeks.

“Happy birthday my babies!!” Momma said rushing to us and giving us each a hug along with a kiss. Our fathers were quick to wish us a happy birthday as well, they gave the boys a hug with a pat on the back – then gave me a hug and a kiss.

“I can’t believe you guys are 18 already. It seems like just yesterday I looked into each of your eyes and felt what true completion felt like.” Momma said with tears in her eyes.

“Awe momma don’t cry! We’re still your babies.” I said hugging her and giving her my best smile. Well, her smile technically – I was my momma’s twin.

“And don’t any of you forget it!” She says with her usual sass, making us all laugh at her.

“Let’s eat!” Teo says with pure excitement, any time foods involved we can always count on him being his happiest.

After eating breakfast with my family, we all open our gifts from each other. Then my parents lead us outside to give us our gifts from them. Three brand new cars sat in our driveway. A matte black Audi R8 with a red bow on it, a white range rover with a blue bow, and A white BMW (M3) with a green bow. I knew right away the Audi was mine since red is my favorite color. The BMW was Theo and Teo’s, and the Range was Leo and Bash’s. We all thanked our parents with lots of hugs and kisses. Then we were off. Of course, no one allowed me to drive alone so Bash volunteered to be my passenger, despite my many complaints.

Within five minutes we were all pulling up to the school with smiles on our faces and new cars drawing attention from every student who was outside. My stomach knotted at the thought of seeing Kai and finally feeling the bond. Despite him ignoring me since Sunday, my excitement and nerves were chaotic.

“How are you feeling angel?” Bash asked me, sensing my anxiety.

“Nervous, he hasn’t texted since Saturday night, and I haven’t seen him since Friday. What if he changed his mind?” I question with a tremble.  

“He would be a complete i***t if he did!” Bash growled protectively at the thought.

“Let’s just go in.” I said with a small smile, ignoring the tightening in my chest.

We made our way inside, stopping to be greeted with Happy Birthday’s from all our pack members. I still haven’t caught my mates’ scent, so I guess Kai hasn’t arrived yet. I thought he would have been here early waiting for me, but I guess not. Again, I am hit with a sadness in my heart. Who I do spot is Noah and Grey already waiting for us with smiles at my locker.

“Happy birthday to our Alpha’s and our Princess!” Grey says with a bright smile and pulls me into a hug. As I’m about to pull away I’m hit with the most mouthwatering scent. It was a mix of mint and lavender. A possessive growl filled the halls and before I could register what was happening sparks ignited around my waist where a strong arm was holding me.

‘MATE.’ Belle shouted in my mind, I turned my head to look at the person who had a hold of me. When I did it wasn’t Kai who I saw…just kidding. Kai buried his head in my neck whispering Mine against my skin.

“Yours.” I answered back instinctually. His head snapped up, his eyes meeting mine and a gorgeous smile found its way on his perfect face. After the high of recognizing him as my mate, all my fears and sadness from the last few days made its way into my head. I pulled away from him with a frown. “We need to talk.” I say with a determined look.

I was about to get to the bottom of him ignoring me! His face fell slightly, but he quickly nodded and began to guide me away from everyone. My brothers were about to protest but when I looked at Bash he got the message, stopping them from intervening. We went to the same classroom from last Friday. Kai closed the door behind us, locking it in the process.

“Baby what’s wrong?”  Kai questioned with a confused look on his face.

“What’s wrong?! What’s wrong he asks. Why have you been ignoring me?!” I shout.

“What? Baby I wasn’t ignoring you.” He says with that same look of confusion.

“Then why haven’t we spoken since Saturday night? Have you changed your mind? Do you not want me anymore?” I ask with my bottom lip wavering a bit.

“Of course not!! Why the hell would I change my mind? You’re everything I have ever wanted in a mate; I would never change my mind about wanting you, my love!” He says quickly while placing a hand on each cheek, looking deep in my eyes. “Baby, I didn’t text or call you because I was going insane. All I wanted to do was rush back to you and never let you go. Every time I thought about you, I had to fight my wolf to stay away. These have been the longest and worst days of my life.”  He says in nothing but honesty. I let out a breath I never realized I was holding and tears I didn’t know were filling my eyes fell. He wiped them quickly, kissing the trail of my tears and then each of my eyelids.

“I’ve missed you. So much.” I finally admit with a blush. His shocked eyes were comical, and I would have laughed if not for the huge smile he had on his face right afterwards.

“You did?” He asks me with pure excitement.

“I did.” I say with a small pout.

“Awe baby, I missed you more than I ever thought possible.” He exclaims and then crashes his lips to mine. Soft and gentle. He pulls his head back, but I’m not ready for the kiss to be over. I grab the back of his neck and kiss him with everything I have. This kiss was not soft or gentle. It was passionate and full of all the longing we both felt for the past few days. When we pulled away this time, we were both gasping for breath. “f**k. Baby, you were so worth the wait.”  He whispers while resting his forehead against mine. I giggle at him, not quite understanding.

“Yeah, I guess four days is a long time to have to wait to kiss your mate.” At that he shook his head negatively.

“No, that’s not what I meant. I have waited for you my whole life and you – that kiss, this moment. It was all worth it.” I stood there shocked, absorbing his words. Wait what? He didn’t wait for me though. Anger bubbles inside me. The thought of other girls having my mate before me.

“Well, technically you can only claim you waited your whole life for me if you never had s*x with any other, she-wolf. Which from what I’ve heard is NOT the case.” I spit our angrily. His eyes widen at my words, good the truth hurts buster! But then anger shines in his eyes.

“I. Said. What. I. Meant.” He says through gritted teeth. “I have waited for you my whole life.”

“I don’t understand. But you’ve had s*x with other girls before.” I say confused; with that he lets out a dry laugh.

“I have, have I? Hmm I wonder if it was any good. Because I don’t recall ever having s*x with ANYONE.” He says with an annoyed growl.

“Wait. You..you mean…”I trail off. Hope blooms in my chest at the idea of being my mates one and only. All I can sense is honesty coming off him.

“I mean, I saved myself for my mate. I waited for my mate. For YOU.”  He says in a clear voice.

“You did?” I say with a smile and tears of happiness in my eyes. At my reaction I watch his tense shoulders relax and the fear in his eyes leave.

“Yes baby. I did. I never wanted to be with anyone other than my mate. I never wanted my mate to ever worry about a past full of meaningless s*x with girls I didn’t care about. So, I waited. Like I said worth the wait.” He says with a smile, pulling me back to him. At that I jump into his arms and kiss him fiercely.

How did I get so lucky?
