Chapter Three

974 Words
It was free period, and four boys sat in the rooftop store room of Hill Crest High. It was actually bigger than a*****e room, more like a small bedroom, but it had been abandoned for years. Only the head janitor and Clark had the key (he'd smooth talked her into giving it to him). Clark immediately turned it into a sanctuary, where he and friends could hang out during school hours, without any disturbance. The place had two couches, three other regular seats, a game console, and a miniature fridge, which was always stocked. The boys present in the sanctuary could be said to be the kings of Hill Crest High, because they literally ruled the school. Each was 18 and a senior, and each wielded a lot of popularity, and therefore, controlled the student population. Richie was without a doubt, the richest in the high school. His parents owned a multi-million dollar toothpaste company, the biggest in the country, and they let him have a cut in it. He was also the most reserved in the group, making people judge him as mysterious, and his mysterious as sexy. Donald was the captain of the soccer team, and a natural charmer. He strung on girls like a mad man, every girl knew that, but they fell every time. Vishnu, a player in the soccer team, was the student board director. He was just as desirable as the others. They had all been best of friends since middle school, except Vishnu, who immigrated from India and joined their clique in his junior year. Vishnu had adapted very well since then. Currently, the boys were going through the file Clark had handed them. "Yo!" Donald laughed. "This chick is the real deal!" "She's... Interesting." Richie concurred. "And Mr Black told you to watch her?" Vishnu asked. Clark took a sip of his cigarette. "He wants me to get evidence he could use to expel her." Donald laughed even harder. "Yah. That sounds like Mr Black alright." "She's really going to stand out. I doubt there's any girl who's gotten more than a speeding ticket in school." Vishnu said pitifully. "I'm pretty excited to meet an actual baddie. She sounds like fun." Richie pulled out a cigarette from his pack, and Vishnu scrunched his nose. "I really don't see what you guys see in smoking." He grumbled, as Richie lit the cigar. "Not now Vishnu. You got us to limit ourselves to two a day. I'm still on my first." Clark told him. Donald snorted. "I remember. Vishnu had my head filled with ‘smokers are liable to die young’ and ‘cigarettes destroy your respiratory system’. Why did I have to suffer that? I don't even smoke!" "Maybe because you're always around?" Clark said sarcastically. "And since you ARE always around, not smoking doesn't count as staying safe. Breathing in the smoke from the cigarette is equivalent.... " Vishnu began preaching, but the others shot him a look that screamed at him to shut up. "So what are you going to do with the girl?" Richie switched back the conversation to its original topic. Clark took another sip on his cigar and blew out the smoke, before replying. "I'll do as I please." "What's that supposed to mean?" Donald queried. "She's mine. I'll do as I please." Clark confidently repeated, not bothering to elaborate. "No man. You don't get us interested then lock us out." "I just did." Richie and Vishnu watched what was about to turn into a heated argument between Donald and Clark. It happened often, very often. Those were two guys who enjoyed getting their way, and would rarely back down for the other. "You afraid of a little competition." Donald taunted. "I'm never afraid of competition." Clark replied stubbornly. "Then let's have it!" Donald turned to the other two guys who were seated safely at the other end of the room. "All of us!" Richie nearly choked on his cigarette, but Donald barely noticed as he continued. "Let's compete. Whoever gets the rap list girl to fall for them first wins. And the winner gets to be sponsored by the rest on our next trip to Cuba as a prize. Richie alone can handle that." "I'm offended that you don't think I'll win this." Richie said, but neither Clark nor Donald, who were at the height of their argument, heard him. "Deal!" "Deal!" The two turned to Vishnu and Richie, indicating they were seeking their agreement. Vishnu kneaded his forehead. "Do I have a choice?" "If you're all in, I'm in." Richie gave in halfheartedly. The bell for the beginning of lunch break rang, and Donald cracked his neck. "Finally! I'm excited for the Midday Games today." He said. Vishnu and Richie shared a glance. Well, that ended more amicably than they had expected, but definitely not in the favor of the rap list girl. They made their way downstairs. In the hallway, Clark stopped while the others continued to the cafeteria. Clark searched the teeming hallway for the new student. Since he knew the face of everyone in school, he was looking for a face he didn't know. He didn't have to look for long, because she really stood out, and he wasn't the only one staring. She was breathtaking. Busy and colorful tattoos adorned her entire arm and neck, the part that could be seen from the short sleeved school uniform T-shirt anyway. Her skirt was short, so it exposed her long attractive legs, which had no tattoo on them, as far as he could see. Thankfully, there were no tattoos on her face to distract onlookers from an extremely pretty face, which was framed by straight long dark brown hair. Clark smirked. He really was going to have fun with his new toy. Teaser : Hannah meets Clark.
