Chapter 6

1190 Words
I walked around for hours aimlessly trying to get out of my head and de-stress from the conversation with Cara. I finally called Gabe for a ride and go back to the office. They had clothes picked out for me for the evening. We were both wearing matching red dresses. I mean the shade of red matched. But the dresses were different. Electra’s was a strapless piece with a plunging neckline that hugged her figure and was floor length with a slit on one leg. My dress was shorter, just a little past mid-thigh, bouffant style with a sweetheart neckline. We got ready together. We were accenting out dresses with gold. Electra wore simple tall gold strappy stilettos that wrapped up her legs several inches. I also wore gold strappy heels but my heel was very short and chunky. The straps on mine were intricately designed across my foot with little butterflies along the strap finishing with what looked like an ankle bracelet holding it in place. Electra finished her look with dangly gold three strand earrings, a gold bracelet, and a gold choker necklace. I just paired mine with gold butterfly earrings. Make up wise we both wear red lipstick that boldly popped but went well with the dress. We both have fair skin with a red skin tone so we skipped blush. Electra fixed her eyebrows and filled them in, applied black mascara and glittery gold eye shadow. Then she sprayed her long red hair with some gold glitter hair spray. I just finished with some black mascara. Electra looked like a goddess and I looked more akin to the princessy aesthetic. Electra kept her long curls down, she tamed them a bit giving a more beach wave style. I had my hair in a glam low updo with a gold tiara band. It had to be both super dressy but also easy to take off so I opted out of the first option that included a messy bun with a braid aligned with more of the little gold butterflies. When our outfits, hair, and makeup were complete, Odette came out and examined us herself. Keeping this client happy was a big deal after the fiasco with her last werewolf call girl. Tonight was very high risk for both of us. It wasn’t like our usual clients, who we always meet in a public place the first time. We weren’t being taken by our usual driver. We were being picked up by a driver the client hired. He was an elite warrior from the Obsidian pack who worked for our client. We also weren’t told about the arrangements for the night aside from what was expected of us. The lack of knowing what we were fully walking into was dangerous in itself, let alone the fact we were both lone wolves. Lone wolves aren’t as strong as pack connected wolves. Pack wolves have a natural boosted strength from their connection. The hierarchy are obviously the most powerful. And rogues are worst than Lone wolves. If an omega, warrior or even elite warrior wolf is banished, they can go feral if they remain rogue for too long. A hierarchy wolf can survive becoming rogue as long as their Alpha didn’t demote them before they were either exiled or denounced their pack. They would retain their power, the boost and authority that comes with the title without the pack connection. It makes for example, a rogue Beta, strong enough to keep from going feral and a still a solid threat to wolves who stray outside the safety of pack boarders. Some rogues will seek out another pack to be accepted into, especially if they’re low level. While others form ‘rogue packs’ in the wild. Since the council intervened, the packs are only allowed to ‘kill on sight’ feral rogues. Low ranking rogues that haven’t gone feral yet but pose a threat to the pack can be eliminated if necessary. But rogues who are still titled, they have to be imprisoned and given a trial before being punished for trespassing or any other crimes they committed. They can only be killed if they came onto pack lands and killed pack wolves. Other transgressions can be punished but then the rogues will have to be let go after facing their consequences. All wolves, regardless of status, have to be invited to enter another pack’s territory. Generally, this only extends to other packs hierarchy or an ambassador for the other pack. The other real exception is usually for mates. If one mate is from a different pack regardless of rank. The occasional exception is inviting a lone wolf. Lone wolves are a special class as they can only be hierarchy born wolves. And as I explained they weren’t demoted and haven’t renounced their pack or have been banished. They leave their pack, go far enough away from their pack where the pack bond no longer connects them and have to apply through the council for lone wolf status. Lone wolves then integrate with humans. Unlike rogues, they cannot apply to join a new pack freely. They are only allowed to join a new pack if they find their mate in said pack. And they can never go back to their birth pack. Some wolves have become lone wolves as a sort of ‘get out of jail free card’. Since they cannot return to their birth pack, if they haven’t been formally charged but committed a crime, they can’t be brought to pack justice. Some offenses, like stealing, could be reported to the human police and they could be punished that way. But other crimes that we can’t report without risking exposure, can only be tried by the Alpha. The Alpha only has power over his own pack. Let me emphasize, this only works if the wolf hasn’t had a trial yet and been found guilty. If they were found guilty and they fled, the council would reject their lone wolf status and take them back to their pack. The council will pretty much accept anyone who applies to be a lone wolf as long as they pass the background check and are actually hierarchy. They ask if the reason you’re leaving is something they need to look into. Like if you’re leaving because the Alpha is abusing his power or you witnessed another hierarchy do something that violates werewolf law or threatens our secret. At that point, all they do is take your statement. They don’t offer you protection for telling the truth, even if it puts you at risk. They don’t call to check up on the poor abused wolves running from their mates. Nothing. They just take your statement, approve your lone wolf application, and send you on your way. Then they clean up the mess afterwards. Because like my example of the abused wolves running from their mates, sometimes their mates find them. It never ends well. Especially because they can’t return to their birth pack no matter how much their abuser demands they do. Then the council has to clean up after to preserve our secret.
