First day nerves

1198 Words
I walk down the stairs, I'm ready to start my day as an intern. I hope that I won't run into Mark today. He drains the air out of me in a good way. I walk to the kitchen and I grab a green apple from the fruit bowl in the middle of the kitchen counter. Everything is white in this house. Well, it's bigger than an average house, and with my dad being in real estate, we could afford basically anything. The kitchen has everything built in, and the colors are gray and white. I walk out towards my car, a black Aston Martin V12 Vintage. The sky is gray but it still feels warm. My father is hardly at home because he has to travel for business. I get inside of my car and I start the engine. I drive around the fountain and towards the huge remote control gate. It opens up, and I drive to work. The traffic was an easy flow, I arrive at work and I park my car in the parking lot. I grab my bag and I place the apple inside of it. I would rather work than eat today, with my nerves all over the place, I doubt I can eat. I get out of the car. I am wearing black heels and a black dress that hugs every curve of my body and stops just above my knee, with a black jersey that I left open in the front. I put my bag strap over my shoulder and I close my car door. "What a nice car" I jump, placing a hand on my chest, calming my rapid breathing down from the fright. Mark was beside me in his Armani suit. He is wearing sunglasses, which I don't see the reason to wear sunglasses because the sky is grey. But he still takes my breath away. "Thank you" I manage to say because it's like I feel suffocated around him. I continue to walk, I can hear my heels on the ground as I walk. "Eager to start work" he says. "Yes I am". It's no use for me to try to walk fast because he catches up. I can feel his eyes on me, but I continue to walk and not look at him. We enter the building. Employees are walking around, getting ready for the day. "Where is the Web design department?" I ask because that was one thing that I forgot to ask. I finally look at him as we slow down. He looks at me with an amused smile on his face and he takes off his sunglasses, gosh those green eyes are like a forest in them. Once again, my breath is taken away and my lips part. "Its on my floor" he says with a smile. Gosh, I probably have to see him every day. He walks further ahead of me and he presses a button for the elevator. I stand next to him as I wait with him. I stare at the elevator doors. "Can't believe you have grown" he says. "I can't stay young forever" I say as the elevator doors open, and I walk inside and he follows after me. Once we are both in the elevator, he hits the twentieth floor button. The elevator ascends. "I agree, you are not what I had expected" he says as he continues to look ahead of him. "What were you expecting?" I ask softly. "More like what I was not expecting. You have just grown a lot" he says, looking at me with an intense stare, and I gasp for air. "I hope that you didn't have any boyfriends that broke your heart, I hope you don't have one now either" he says. I can't believe he just said that. Just as I wanted to open my mouth to say something, but the elevator doors open. He walks out and I follow after him. This time I'm a bit angry with what he said to me. "Good morning, Jackie" he greets the receptionist before he walks through the door. It's the same receptionist that was in deep conversation with my father yesterday. She has a fair complexion and looks to be of a good age, maybe close to my father's age. My dad dates on and off, his relationships never last. This lady is pretty. She has long brunette hair and blue eyes. She looks up at me as I walk towards her. "Good morning Gray-Lynn. If you are wondering where the web designing department is, it will be around the corner from the kitchen. The name of the department will be huge for you to see" she says with a smile. "Thank you" I return her smile. "Have a great first day" she says, and I nod before I walk through the door. I walk past the offices, as I walk past Mark's office, I can feel heat burn into me and I think that he must be looking at me, but I do not look into his office. I continue to walk to my department. I see the kitchen and I walk past it and I round the corner. Ahead of me, I see the web designing department. I see some interns sitting in the cubicles already. "Hi, you must be Gray-Lynn Spark?" a lady who is petite, with a file in her hand asks me. "Yes, that's correct" I say. "Im Paulina. I'm in charge of the Web designing department of interns. You may sit in the cubical next to Sam" she says, and I nod. I look over at Sam, who raises his hand in the air for me to see him. I walk over to him, I sit down in the chair at my cubicle, I place my bag in my desk drawer and power on my computer. " I'm Sam, as you know". I look at Sam as he extends his hand out to me. He is attractive, with ocean blue eyes, and dark hair that falls over his forehead. I take his hand and we shake hands. "Gray-Lynn. But you can call me Gray or Lynn, whichever you prefer", I smile with a shrug as I turn back to my computer. "Such a beautiful name for a beautiful lady" he says, and I look over at him, he is leaning back in his seat looking at me with a smile on his face. I chuckle. "Thank you" I say as I put a lock of my hair behind my ear, heat rising to my cheeks as I blush. The moment I look up, I am met with serious, angry green eyes. Mark looks at Sam with his jaw clenching and then he moves towards Paulina, who blushes just by having Mark close to her. I can't help the feeling that he might not like the fact that I spoke to Sam, then the thought of what he said to me in the elevator comes back to me. He might not like the fact of me having boyfriends. Well, he can't tell me what I can and cannot do. I haven't seen him for years.
