Episode2: Sabotage

Lilly sat at her desk, her eyes scanning the documents in front of her. She had been researching the construction company that was tearing down the community garden for hours, trying to find a way to stop them. She had been poring over legal documents, searching for any loophole or technicality that could help them save the garden. As she read, her eyes widened in shock. "Oh no," she whispered, her voice barely audible. Tawny, hearing her, looked up from her book, concerned. "What's wrong, Lilly?" Lilly's face was pale, her eyes wide with fear. "The construction company... it's owned by Ryder Roods, s**t!." Tawny's expression was blank, unsure of what that meant. "Who the hell is a Ryder Roods?" Lily's eyes were serious, her voice low and urgent. "Ryder is a wealthy businessman with a reputation for getting whatever he wants. He's ruthless and cunning, and he'll stop at nothing to achieve his goals." Tawny's brow furrowed, confused. "I've never heard of him. Why is he so powerful?" Lily sighed, rubbing her temples. "He's got connections everywhere. He's friends with the mayor, the police chief... he even has ties to the city council. If he wants something, he gets it, no matter what." Tawny's eyes narrowed, trying to understand. "So he's basically an asshole?" Lily nodded, her expression grim. "That's right. And if he wants to tear down the garden, we can't stop him." Tawny's face fell, her eyes dropping to the floor. "That's not fair. We can't just give up, we've worked so hard for this." Lilly's expression was sympathetic, but firm. "I know. But sometimes, you have to know when to fight and when to retreat. I can't believe I'm saying this but, this is a battle we can't win, Tawny." Tawny slumped back in her chair, defeated. "So what do we do?" Lilly's voice was soft, trying to comfort her friend. "We try to find another way to save the garden. Maybe there's a loophole or a technicality we can use to our advantage. But for now... I think we have to accept that the garden is gone." Tawny's eyes flashed with anger, her voice rising. "I don't accept it. There has to be a way to stop him." Lilly's expression was calm, trying to reason with Tawny. "I know you're upset, Tawny. But we have to be realistic. Ryder is a force not to be reckoned with. We can't take him on alone." Tawny's face twisted in frustration, her fists clenched. "I don't care. I won't give up." Lilly's voice was gentle, trying to soothe Tawny's anger. "I know you won't. But we have to be smart about this. We can't just charge in without a plan." Tawny's eyes narrowed, her mind racing. "I'll find a way to stop him. I won't let him win." Lilly's expression was worried, unsure of what Tawny would do next. "Tawny, be careful. Ryder is not someone to be trifled with." Tawny's smile was fierce, determined. "I'm not afraid of him. I'll find a way to stop him, no matter what it takes. And why are you acting like its over, lily, if he wins, we lose everything!” Later that night Tawny snuck onto the construction site under the cover of darkness, her heart racing with excitement and a hint of fear. She had been planning this for days, she was scared at first because this means that she was cheating, but she didn't think Ryder would play fair, and she was determined to see it through. She made her way to the first machine, a giant excavator that had been causing the most damage to the community garden. It destroyed the flowers she planted which made her even madder. She quickly got to work, using her knowledge of mechanics to disable the machine. She poured lots of sand into the engine, knowing it would seize up the next time it was started. As she worked, she couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. She was taking a stand against Ryder and his soulless company, and she was doing it in the most effective way possible. When Lilly told her he was untouchable it made her more furious, he was using his power to bully people, and that's not fair. He was a jerk. She moved on to the next machine, a bulldozer that had been tearing up the streets. She used a wrench to loosen the tracks, knowing it would make it impossible to move. She felt proud, at least those mechanic classes she took last year wouldn't go to waste, even if she had to idea why she took them in the first place. Tawny continued her sabotage, moving from machine to machine, disabling each one with precision and care. She was a ghost, a wonder woman, invisible and unstoppable. She climbed up onto a crane, her hands moving quickly and surely as she disabled the engine. She felt a thrill of excitement as she looked out over the construction site, knowing she had single-handedly brought the entire operation to a halt. She felt proud of her work. As she finished, she took a moment to admire her handiwork. The machines stood silent and still, their metal bodies dark and menacing in the moonlight. Tawny smiled to herself, feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment. She had taken a stand against Ryder and his company, and she had won. She made her way off the construction site, disappearing into the night like a ghost. She knew Ryder would be furious when he discovered what she had done, but she didn't care. She had fought for what she believed in, and she had won. As she walked away from the site, Tawny felt a sense of freedom and empowerment. She had taken control of the situation, and she had come out on top. She knew that this was only the beginning, and she was ready for whatever came next. Mr. Alex knew what would come next after he dialled Ryder's number. He knew that Ryder was not a man to be trifled with, and the news he was about to deliver would not be well received. Alex had been working for Ryder's construction company for five years, and he had seen firsthand how Ryder handled mistakes. It wasn't pretty. He got a call from one of the workers that they were having problems starting the machines, none of them agreed to call Ryder in fear of getting fired. Though he and Ryder had a good relationship, he wasn't oblivious of his temper and sometimes Ryder would scream at him, despite the fact that they were friends. "Ryder, it's Alex," he said, his voice hesitant. Ryder's voice was curt, as always. "What is it, Alex? I'm busy." Alex swallowed hard, trying to find the right words. "It's the machines, sir. They're not working. We can't get them to start." There was a pause on the other end of the line, and Alex could almost feel Ryder's anger building. He knew that Ryder had been counting on getting this project done on time, and any delays would cost him money. "What do you mean they're not working?" Ryder's voice was low and menacing. Alex's words tumbled out in a rush. "I mean, we've tried everything, sir. We've checked the fuel, the spark plugs, everything. But nothing's working. And I know you're going to be mad, sir, but I thought you should know right away." Ryder's response was icy. "You think I'm going to be mad, Alex? You have no idea what mad is. Get it fixed as fast as you can." Alex's heart sank. He knew he was in for a tongue-lashing at the very least. He had seen Ryder yell at employees before, and it wasn't a pretty sight. "Yes, sir. I'll try, sir," Alex replied, trying to placate Ryder. But then he remembered something. "Wait, sir. I think I found the problem. I was checking the machines and I found sand in one of the engines. I think someone might have...you know...sabotaged them." There was a pause on the other end of the line, and Alex could almost feel Ryder's anger turning to fury. "Sand?" Ryder's voice was incredulous. "Someone put sand in the engine? Find out who did it, Alex. And when you do, I want them fired. Immediately." Alex sighed heavily. He knew he had to find the culprit fast, or risk facing Ryder's wrath himself. He had seen Ryder fire employees on the spot before, and he didn't want anybody else to be next. "Yes, sir. I'll do it right away," Alex replied, trying to sound confident. But before he hung up the phone, he couldn't shake the feeling of dread that had settled in his stomach. He knew that Ryder was a man of his words, and he would stop at nothing to get what he wanted. Ryder couldn't help but ask, still on the call with Alex. “So the reason you guys haven't started breaking ground is because of that peanut?” Peanut was what he chose to call tawny because he has received reports about her protests, she was as hard as a peanut but he would break her, she's not even the owner of the restaurant, why is she fighting so hard for something that doesn't belong to her? “So you guys can't handle a little girl, and now your bulldozer won't start?” Ryder was getting tired of all these excuses “Just double the price we offered, she already called to accept the deal right?” “We thought she did, sir but she refused. She said she changed her mind, and she told us to…to…” Alex stammers Ryder, getting annoyed, screamed “Told you to what!” “Oh come on Ryder, it's nothing to worry about and besides I might lose my job if I finish that sentence” Alex cried “You will lose your job if you don't! Now spill the beans!” Ryder screams “She said we should bulldoze your brain instead” Parker said and paused, there was silence on the other line, before a shuffling sound was heard, Ryder stood up “She said what!?” “That we should bulldoze your brain instead” Alex said shaking his head, this wouldn't end well, silence again “YOU'RE FIRED!” Ryder screamed and cut the line. Bulldoze my brain huh? Let's see who gets bulldozed today, Ryder grabs his car key and walks out. It seems he has been too lenient with people these days, and this Tawny thinks she was on top of the world, she won't see this coming. Ryder hopped in his car, his mind racing with anger and frustration. The equipment failures at the construction site were costing him time and money, and he was determined to get to the bottom of it. He couldn't believe that this was happening, not now, when everything was finally starting to fall into place. Just then something ticked on his mind and he slammed his fist on the steering wheel. "Sabotage," he muttered to himself. "It's the only explanation." He thought back to the protests, the angry faces, the signs. He thought about Tawny, and her constant interference. He was starting to put two and two together. Just then, his phone rang. He snatched it up. "Tell me what I want to hear, Alex." "Hello to you too, boss. I've got some bad news. The machines are still down. We've tried all we can to remove the sand and replace the bolts, but it's going to be too hard and the sand is way too deep to be cleaned out, I think we'll have to dismantle the machines ." Ryder's anger boiled over. "I don't care how you do it, Get it fixed, Alex. Now. I don't pay you to stand around twiddling your thumbs. I needed those machines up and running yesterday." "I know, boss. I'm trying. But it's like... I don't know, it's going to take a while to get this dismantled and fixed back up again." Ryder's grip on the phone tightened. "You've got to be kidding me right now Alex, I am losing money as we speak!! Get them fixed now!." "Yes, boss. I'll do my best." Ryder's voice rose. "Your best? Your best isn't good enough! I need results, Alex. Now." He hung up the phone and floored it past the red light, causing many cars to come to a halt, determined to confront Alex and get to the bottom of the problem. He arrived at the site, his anger still simmering. As Ryder stepped out of his sleek, black car, the air around him seemed to vibrate with an aura of power and authority. His broad shoulders and chiseled features commanded attention, and the construction workers couldn't help but stare. His tailored suit accentuated his muscular physique, and his piercing blue eyes seemed to bore into the souls of those around him. His dark hair was perfectly styled, and his strong jawline was set in a determined expressionAs he strode across the site, his confident stride and purposeful demeanor left no doubt that he was a man in charge. The protesters parted to let him through, their eyes fixed on him with a mixture of curiosity and intimidation. The construction workers nodded respectfully as he passed, their faces reflecting a mix of admiration and awe. Ryder's presence was like a magnet, drawing all eyes to him, and his aura of masculinity and power was palpable. One of the protesters, a young woman, couldn't help but stare. She felt a shiver run down her spine as Ryder's eyes met hers, and she quickly looked away, her cheeks flushing. Another protester, an older man, whispered to her, "That's Ryder, the developer. He's the one who's been pushing for this project." The woman nodded, her eyes darting back to Ryder, who was now standing at the center of the site, surveying the area with a critical eye. She felt a sense of unease as she watched him, sensing that he was a man who would stop at nothing to get what he wanted. When he spotted Alex standing near the broken machines, he strode over. "Alex!" he bellowed. "What's the status of the repairs?" Alex looked up, nervously. "Ok, we are on with the dismantling of the machines but we are going to need more help to get it done as soon as possible." Ryder's expression turned even darker. "Then what are you doing standing around for? Do what you need to do, hire more people, get this s**t done Alex!." Alex took a step back, intimidated. "I know, Ryder. I'm doing my best here, but I just wanted to inform you first before I start shoving into the company’s account and since we are losing money…….." Ryder's voice rose. "Wow what a nice thing to say, reminding me that we are losing money, Just get this done as soon as you can." Alex nodded, cowed. "Yes, Ryder. I'll try again." Ryder's scowl deepened. "See that you do. And Alex?" "Yes, Ryder?" "If I find out that you're not doing everything you can to fix these machines... there will be consequences. Do I make myself clear?" Alex nodded again, rolling his eyes, when it came to business, Ryder had no friends. "Yes, Ryder. Crystal clear." Ryder turned to leave, but then spun back around. "And Alex?" "Yes, Ryder?". "I want you to review the security footage. I want to know if anyone suspicious was around the machines last night." Alex nodded. "Yes, Ryder. I'll do it now." Ryder's eyes narrowed. "Good. I want answers, Alex. And I want them now.” Now back to this Tawny woman, Ryder looks at the restaurant and scowls She won't see this one coming.
