SKYE POV - CHAPTER 6
The party is in full swing at Moon Valley.
I swear if it was not for my relationship with the Alpha, I wouldn't be here tonight. I'd probably be locked up in my office going through contracts or lying in my bed and thinking about that dream I had the other night. It's been 3 days and it's still haunting me.
My doubts about having that connection with someone goes a very long way. How can you love someone so much that you are willing to put everything on the line for them? What makes that knot so strong that you don't even have a doubt that they will break it within a second?
That feeling is not for me. I was not built for this. I was built to rule and protect my pack for all eternity. What makes the Moon Goddess think that putting two souls together will create peace? What if you fall inlove with your enemy? Then you're doomed. How could that ever be a perfect match?
My phone rings and I see it's Skyler. I answer. "What do you need?"
"Hello Skyler, how are you? I missed you so much. Can you please come home? I am nothing without you. I need you here now." She quarrels and I refrain from rolling my eyes. "Can't you ever answer a phone with a simple hello?"
"Hello Skyler, how are you? I missed you. What do you need?" I tease.
She laughs. "The job is done. I don't think he will be bothering us anytime soon." She says.
"Good. When will you be home?"
"I thought I could stay here for a little while, get the company back to speed. See if I can recruit another stand-in"
"You do know that's your job now, right?"
She grunts. "I was hoping it wouldn't be. But what the hell, Hong Kong has been generous, so I think I will stick around for a little while. Thanks bro, I will keep you updated." She drops the call and I shake my head. I definitely should keep tabs on that one. One step in the wrong direction, and she's once again in the tabloids.
I was never one to love the spotlight. It was always Skyler's job. Up to this day, no one knows how Skye Bradford looks. Many have tried to score interviews with me, but I always refused. Too many eyes on me and the human world will know that werewolves exist.
Standing in the shadows in the large ballroom, I scan the crowd. To my left, is Alpha Jesse with his beta and gamma from River Run pack. His pack is one of the smallest in the country and he just became Alpha. He is an ally. To my right, are Alpha Jericho and Luna Nala with their beta and gamma. They're allies. One of the oldest packs in the country.
The entrance to the ballroom opens and in walks Tyler with a woman on his arm. A growl vibrates in my chest. I was never one to hold grudges nor blame the kids for what their parents did. But with Tyler, it's a different story. He chose to stay enemies because of generations of feuds. Even after I sent him a treaty to have our packs be allies, he refused. We are, after all, two of the largest and strongest packs in the entire world.
"Is that his new flavor of the month?" Hayden, my gamma, asks Asten, my beta.
"Probably. I've never seen her in the tabloids." Asten responds.
"Do you guys seriously follow the tabloids? Don't you have anything better to do with your lives?" I ask while watching the woman holding onto Tyler from the corner of my eye. I think she feels me watching her as she looks my way. She gives a small smile and time feels like it stands still.
What is happening?
"It is my job, boss. Did you forget?" Hayden says.
I keep my eyes locked on her. Studying everything about her. The way her hips sway as she walks, holding on tightly to him. Her long blonde hair that's curled and tied up to the side of her face. Her sparkling blue eyes, and nose that compliments the shape of her face perfectly. She seems familiar. Like I've seen her before.
"Can't be the flavor of the month. Do you see the way he holds onto her? She's practically stitched to his side. And the way he growls at whoever is looking her way." Asten says, and I'm impressed with his reading skills.
"It's his sister." I say, as recognition dawns upon me. Tyler always kept her hidden and didn't want the world to know about her. I can see why. She's the most beautiful woman I've ever seen.
"The son of a b***h has a sister!?" Hayden shouts.
"Shut the f**k up! Not everyone needs to know we're discussing them." Asten slaps Hayden over the head like his a 12-year-old that was just caught catching on the world's s**t.
The two of them stop straight opposite me and, just like me, she cannot take her eyes off me. She speaks to Tyler, and he looks this way with a grim on his face. He whispers something in her ear and her eyes go wide before she looks away again. Disappointment fills my gut.
The night continues in full swing and, thank the Gods, no fights have broken out yet.
I make my way to the bathroom and I get that familiar smell of honey and strawberries mixed with vanilla.
I stop dead in my tracks. f**k. She's here. My mate is here, and she's not far because the smell gets stronger and stronger.
I look around but see no one.
Before I could take the turn, I walk straight into Tyler and his sister and my heart stops.
My eyes widen and all I can hear is Mate vibrate through my chest before everything goes black.
