TYLER POV – CHAPTER 5 I was raised to protect the things that I love. To fight for what belongs to me. Never show any weakness. Be cold if you have to. Make them respect you. Be a forceful leader. That’s how I ruled my pack. They needed a leader to look up to. One that doesn’t have a mind for failure. I understand why Iris doesn’t want me to protect her. She’s grown. But she’s still my little sister. Anyone who knew she was my sister would stop at nothing to hurt her. She was my weakness. But I never showed it to the outside world. Growing up, we were always close. But that stopped as soon as the protective instincts kicked in. Whenever she was in trouble, I’d be the first one to be by her side. "Are you ready for this?" I asked while hooking her arm to mine. "Born ready! And please, tonight is not the night to be acting like a total douche." She rolls her eyes as we make our way to my car. "Should you even be driving tonight? I know how you get when you've had a bit too much." She stares at me. "You don't have to worry about me as long as you are good and safe." I give her a teasing wink and smile. "Oh here we go again. Can you chill for once please? Just for one night. That's all I can ever ask of you. Please, Tyler." She sighs and gives me that face that I always struggle to say no to. When Iris turned 6, all she ever wanted to do was spare with the Alpha, which was my dad at the time. Every morning she would stand up at 5am and run straight to my parents' room to wake him up and start training. She was never one to play with dolls and had my dad build her a big dollhouse. She was not your typical 6-year-old. All she ever wanted to do was be one of the greatest warriors in the pack. When she turned 13, she was a master of all crafts. Dad had her train with the best in the world. People envied her, no one liked her and always wanted to bully her, forgetting she could make them fly with a simple roundhouse kick. But she always chose not to as she's always been the soft one in the family. Iris never needed me to save her. But I chose to do it because that's what I will always do for her. She's my little sister. I sigh. "Fine. Only if you promise not to run off with some simpleton." I glare at her. She smiles, and I swear, this was 1 of probably 2 genuine smiles she's ever given me. I annoy her, I know. "Thank you, Tyler". She kisses me on the cheek before she gets into the car. "And at all times be in my line of sight," I say, and she rolls her eyes. The drive to Moon Valley Pack was long and I dreaded driving myself. Taking my phone out of my pocket, I text Xion, my beta. Tyler: I need you and Dean to join me and bring one of the warriors to drive my car back home. Xion: Are you kidding me man? Tyler: I will not say this again Xion. Xion: You better pray Islyn doesn't go into labor while we're at that party, or she will have your head on a stick. Tyler: She won't. Just get your asses here. I won't want to have to ask again. Putting my phone back into my pocket, I step out and walked around the car to open the door for Iris. The air smells like a mixture of so many people that shouldn't be here. I hate this. I hate crowded places. Iris is the only reason I agreed to this. If it were up to me, I'd probably be f*****g some red head and making her sing my praises. But I am here, in the heart of my enemies' grounds, Blue Lake. The feud between our two packs goes back generations and generations. It was never a feud about who had the biggest d***s or who had the biggest company or building. It was about who had the largest and strongest pack. Blue Lake has always been at the top ranks when it came to the best soldiers. At the top ranks when it came to business too. But Grandpa Donahue never wanted to hear that. He hated the whole Bradford clan with a passion. Donahue Corp is one of the largest and most successful security companies in the world. We mainly specialize in tech, even though we do bodyguards too. We've got contracts all around the world. Moon Valley is also one of our most loyal and best client. Every inch of their mansion is covered in Donahue Corp tech and I couldn't feel more proud. "Welcome Alpha Tyler! And this must be the infamous Iris. Oh Goddess, you're beautiful! No wonder he has you locked away in that mansion." Luna Krystal from Moon Valley says while going in for a hug. Iris' eyes goes wide and stops her before she can come any close. She gives a nervous smile and says, "I'm sorry, but not to be rude because I always bring my manners. But I don't do hugs, especially to someone I don't even know. No offense." She smiles. Luna Krystal bursts out with laughter and says, "Witty, just like the brother. I like. No wonder he has you all locked up. The males will have you for supper." She winks, and I know she says that just to test me, but I growl anyway and pull Iris closer to me. "Oh hush big bad puppy. You know I love to pull legs, especially yours." She winks before she turns around and gestures for us to follow her. Looking around, I remember the last time I was here. I had just come out of a meeting with Doran, the Alpha. When I walked right into Skye Bradford, the Alpha from Blue Lake. My Beta was the first one to be on the defense. I thought it was all a trap, because why would my most loyal client associate with my enemy? It was then that I learned that not only is Doran Skye's loyal client too, but he built the very mansion we're standing in right now. "The party is in full swing. Please enjoy yourselves! And remember, this is neutral grounds and everyone is welcome. So I will be watching you pup." She winks and walts away. I pray so hard to the Gods tonight to hear my prayer. Please do not let Iris find her mate tonight. I will lose my s**t.
