"Marry me." I blurted out. I watched as Aiden's face changed into one of shock. His eyes were wide open. He gazed at me like I had two hands. To Aiden, I was crazy but I was the only one who understood my sudden proposal to him. It would be the first step to my revenge plan against Damien.
Of course I needed an ally and the only person i could think of was Damien, he was smart and with his investigative skills, I believed that I would be able to bring Damien and Mrs Jenkins down.
"I knew it! I should not have let you drink too much, look at you now, spewing nonsense from your mouth." Aiden said, suddenly pulling me by the wrist. I rolled my eyes at him and struggled to break free from his grip on me. "I am not drunk, I barely even finished the first bottle." I said in a defensive tone. Truly, I was a bit tipsy but I actually meant my words. I wanted Aiden to marry me.
"Then was that some kind of joke?" Aiden snapped at me. I shook my head in disagreement and stared at him with a serious look on my face. "I am serious here. I want you to my husband. You are the perfect figure to fit into my revenge plan, help me please." I said. Aiden scoffed at my response, he loosened his grip on my wrist and eyed me in disbelief.
"You have got kidding me for real. Just because I told you let Karma handle your husband, I did not actually mean you should take actions. Come on Janet, just let things be." Aiden said.
He had motivated me enough, I was not going to back out of anything. Damien needed to put it in his place and i refused to let Karma handle him, I was going to get Damien to pay all by myself.
"Please." I pleaded. Damien frowned. "I am not helping you and I am also starting to regret ever even giving you a listening ear in the first place. You still have a brighter future ahead of you and i am very sure you will find a better man who will love you wholeheartedly." Aiden said, without waiting for me, he turned around and began to walk out of the club.
Something about the marriage talk made Aiden feel sensitive. I could not pinpoint what it was but it seemed like he hated the idea of marriage in general. I was not going to give up though, I was determined to get Aiden to marry me, even if it meant doing whatever he wanted.
Each day passed by with me pleading to Aiden to marry me. I pestered him like a bug and he looked so frustrated whenever I brought up the marriage topic. I had even expected him to resign as my bodyguard but he had not, instead he continued to give me no for an answer.
One fateful morning, I noticed that Aiden had not gotten to the house yet and it made me feel worried. The time was 11am yet Aiden had not arrived for work, I knew him as an early bird. One who was quick to get to work as early as 6am. I asked my father about his whereabouts and dad told me that he had not heard from Aiden all morning.
Later that day, Aiden eventually got to work at noon. He apologized to me, explaining that he had an urgent family matter to attend to. Minutes after that, he excused himself from the living room, stating that he had to answer an urgent phone call. Everything about Aiden was starting to seem suspicious, I had to follow him to the hallways just to eavesdrop on his conversation with whoever was on the phone.
"Hello?" Aiden's voice echoed loudly. I could not hear the voice of whoever was speaking over the phone but in less than a minute, Aiden began to yell. "I am trying my best! I am trying my f*****g best to raise money for the family. Try to be a little more patient with me, you do not expect me to perform some magic." Aiden yelled.
He groaned in frustration and pushed further. "What do you mean by the landlady is threatening to kick you guys out of the house? Come on, just plead with her to give you guys more time while I try to take out a loan or something. I will sort things out, all I need is time, not pressure!"
Aiden eventually hung up the call but judging by the little conversation I overheard, I could tell that Aiden was in a huge debt or something. That explained the urgent family matter he had referred to earlier today.
I cleared my throat, causing him to gaze at me with a raised brow. "Do you need something?" He asked in a bored tone. I toyed with my hands awkwardly, unsure of how to propose to him again.
This time I was going to emotionally blackmail him into marrying me. I knew it was wrong but I was desperate, I needed his help to put Damien in his place and take back all of my properties.
"Do you have something to say to me?" He asked, breaking the awkward silence between us.
I sighed heavily and confessed. "I overheard your conversation with whoever that was on the phone and I know you are in dire need of money." I said.
Aiden eyed me with disdain. "Do you not know boundaries at all?" He snapped at me.
"Marry and I will help you settle your debt." I said in a serious tone.
Aiden threw his hands in the air and groaned in frustration. He muttered a cuss under his breath and buried his face in his palms.
"I promise not to be a bother to you. I just need your help in fighting against Damien. Once I regain all my lost properties from Damien, our marriage can end, I promise." I reassured him.
Surprisingly for me, Aiden did not protest. He sighed heavily and his next words left me in shock. "I will marry you."
