MAX LEFT IN THE FIRST ambulance, and Ariel went with him. The woman had declared herself Max's fiancée, and she had turned everything into a dramatic scene only to be allowed to ride with him. The older police officer implored the EMT experts to take her so that she would stop carrying on like a deranged lunatic.
Max came to the real world in the middle of Ariel’s performance for a few moments, and the woman’s statement shocked him into silence. He couldn’t believe that he had before his eyes the same woman that had rejected him mercilessly less than a week before.
“Let her come,” he managed to whisper, but he needn’t have troubled himself.
No one heard his words, and anyway, the woman proved to have enough stamina to win that battle by herself.
