CHAPTER 6

Chapter 6 Roman’s POV The next morning Veronica was in my office, sitting smugly when I confronted her about the gossip. She denied everything, so I called Destiny and asked her to swing by my office in the afternoon and made another appointment with Veronica. I should have done so in the first place. I mean how does she even know Destiny. Veronica is from the Blood Moon Pack. When Destiny and Veronica were in the same room I again asked her if she had told anyone about Destiny’s gifts and she again denied. I looked at Destiny and she simply shook her head. “You told your alpha and a group of warriors. Why would you do that?” Destiny asked. “You arrested my brother the other day for killing those little human girls. Now he will go to human prison and probably be put on death row but it will take years and he won’t be able to shift you b*tch. I thought we could take you and sale you to the shifter traffickers. Alpha Roman immediately took her into custody as this was a serious crime in the shifter community. Then he called the alpha at Blood Moon Pack and threatened him with war if they tried. He apologized to Destiny and told her he would assign Damien and Adrian to be her guards when she was off pack lands. So she went back to work to finish her day out. Veronica was fired. Destiny’s POV That night when Damien got off guard duty, she was waiting with nothing but a bow on covering her lady parts. She asked Damien if he wanted dinner or dessert first. He opted for dessert and pounced on her chasing her upstairs where he showed her what cherry pie was all about. He then kissed his way up her body finding all the right curves and mounds to cherish before he showed her how to plunge into the great unknown for a finale that left them both exhausted. They fell asleep without dinner, but it was worth it. The next day she opened her case files to come across a case about a young five-year-old girl who was missing fifteen years. Diamond said she was still alive and living a happy adopted life with her kidnapped parents. I decided to handle this one differently as the young girl was grown. I approached her instead of the two parents. I asked her if she knew she had been kidnapped at five years old and she said no, but that she was very happy in her home and well treated and she did not want her “parents” arrested or mistreated in any way. I asked her if she wanted to know her birth parents and she said only if they agreed not to press charges. I then went to the birth parents who were irate that I gave the girl a choice. They were ecstatic though that she grew up happy and without abuse. They agreed to not press charges if the girl would just come to see them. I set up a meeting at McDonalds for them and accompanied Tammy, the kidnapped girl, to the meeting. It was a very nervous meeting for all involved. A lot of crying and hugging. The birth mother didn’t want to let her go but she exchanged numbers with them and promised to keep in touch with them. I went home unsatisfied as there was no justice served. I decided to visit the kidnappers anyway to warn them from repeating the practice only to be met at the door by a four-year-old boy. Turns out that after many years of trying they had been successful in creating a child of their own. I left the house feeling better about the situation. My next case was a current case. A young girl around twelve went missing possible run away and the parents who had heard about me through the grape vine specifically requested that I be on the case. I went to their house and held her sweater. I told them she was alive, not a runaway, but taken by s*x traffickers. We raced to the house they were keeping her at and ran upstairs. I regretted not saving her from the drugs but I did prevent her from being r***d. I recommended a drug treatment center and psychotherapy as soon as possible. She had only been gone 24 hours, but a lot of damage could be done in that amount of time. I went back to the station exhausted. All the trauma and cold cases were getting to me and I still felt as if I was being watched. It was a nagging feeling that wouldn’t go away. I went home but Damien wasn’t there yet, so I called Grace over to have a cup of coffee with me. We talked about everything happening in my life until Damien came home. It really helped bringing me up to speed. I was feeling better, and Damien was everything calm I could ask for. He drew me a bath and lit candles and turned out the lights. It was wonderful. I couldn’t ask for a better mate. After my bath he had dinner made and we ate veal parmesan with pasta and salad. Then he took me upstairs for a very intimate bedside massage. We ended up making love several times that night. I couldn’t believe that I didn’t want a mate in my former life. Damien was the best thing that ever happened to me. The next day was Saturday, so Diamond and I went for a run. I had run in a large circle for several miles when I was surrounded by around six rogues. They were much smaller than me but still there were six of them. I sent a mind link for help and a howl for location and backed myself to a large tree. The rogues took that as a sign of fear but I was just protecting my back side. I had never killed a wolf before, and I knew I was going to have to if I wanted to survive. The first two wolves approached me head on, trying to intimidate me. That’s when I realized this was not a fight to the death but something else. I decided to outrun them. As the rogues came forward tightening the circle. I neatly cleared over the top of them and took off running for the pack lands with the rogues hot on my heals. I was very much faster than them and began to lose them immediately then ten more showed up in front of me. That is when I remembered that I could teleport. I was immediately back in my living room. Quickly shifting back to my human form, I mind linked I was safe and the circumstances of the attack. I was called to the alpha’s office. I quickly dressed and teleported over to the pack house. Alpha Roman was concerned it was a kidnapping gone wrong, but I was overconfident that I would be fine. To be on the safe side he said that I was not allowed to run alone anymore. I went home and took steaks out that had been marinating overnight. Damien was on guard duty today and wouldn’t be home until four thirty in the afternoon. I cleaned our little cottage and finished up the laundry while I thought about what had happened. When Damien came home, he was angry I went out alone, but really I was in no danger I thought as he lectured me. I could just teleport if it got out of hand like today. However, he pointed out unceremoniously that now they knew I could teleport and would plan for that contingency. This knocked the wind out of my sails so to speak. I wasn’t going to let anything ruin the evening though. While Damien cooked the steaks, I baked the potatoes and made the salad. I of course was dessert. We had a wonderful romantic dinner on the back deck of our little home. The back deck faced the woods and we could hear the animals scampering and a slight breeze blowing our direction told us there was nothing dangerous for miles. It was so relaxing. After cleaning up Dinner, Damien put his arms around me from behind and his nose in the crook of my neck. “Time for dessert.” He said. And we went upstairs. I am beginning to think cherry pie is my favorite dessert. Damien says its finger licking good. I screamed out in ecstasy as he used his tongue to find the last of the cherries. Then licking the whipped cream up my stomach and around my mounds to the tip for some icing as he calls it. When I was no longer sticky with cherry pie juice, he plunged into the depths of my soul with a cry of triumph that made my toes curl. Finally, it was time to change the sheets and shower. I had begun, out of expectation, to set out an extra set of sheets every night. Damien loved his desserts and made a complete mess of both of us eating to his hearts content. Tonight, I had also had some fun climbing mount Rushmore and riding his equipment until I completely wore out the poor thing. The next day, Sunday, I was lazy completely worn out by last nights dessert and mountain climbing. I laid around the house all day just basking in the relaxation that had found me this weekend. I was completely refreshed and ready for work tomorrow. I took out dinner, a boxed lasagna from the store as I didn’t feel like cooking. It would definitely be a less than stellar dinner, but I just felt lazy from the last two nights. Tonight, I’m thinking banana splits for dessert. It will be a change that I hope Damien likes. He is partial to cherry pie. Monday morning brought back my stress headache. There seemed to be a never ending box of cold case files. Every time I think we are close to catching up another department will ask if we can help them with their cold cases. This morning’s case was a nine-year-old girl missing two years without a trace. I know she is dead, and it breaks my heart. I lead the police to her body, and they were all upset as she was the chief’s daughter. They asked me if I knew who did it and I did but had no proof to give them. I gave them the name and told them he has repeatedly committed similar crimes across the state as a semi-truck driver. I tearfully apologized that I could not give evidence, but they just hugged me and told me not to worry about it. My second file was barely open, but the four-year-old boy was alive he was what I had came to call an abduction adoption. This is where the child was stolen to become part of a new family. The boy would be eight now. I called his precinct and told them where to get him. He was one county over from his parents living on a farm. He had his own pony and a dog. It would be a gratifying but sad salvation for him and his parents. As I was leaving the office someone caught up with me and told me that the truck driver who killed the nine-year-old girl was found beaten to death at a truck stop in the southern part of the state. He had a little girl tied up in his cab that was rescued when cops got there to work the crime scene. Somehow, I knew the cops did it…. but there was no proof. I know justice was done, but it seemed there could be a better way to go about it. I shook my head and went home to Damien and dessert.
